April 2016 Grocery Challenge

Islandmaid I think I get it from my parents who still have a rationing mentality. I can walk to 4 corner shops and a giant SM within 20 mins so I am not sure why my brain says I need stuff in MY HOUSE instead of THEIR SHOP.
I think running a chest freezer is about £200 a year - which is probably a quarter of the shopping budget... and if the apocalypse comes I shall just have to deal with it in the knowledge there'll be power cuts anyway.
As YS seem to be often available, I should just let it go. Will try and run down the freezer in the next few weeks. No more YS until it is done!2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
Went shopping this morning with little one, totally unprepared so had to buy a snack and drink for her and ended up buying lunch to take home as I saw cornish pasties and couldn't resist. Total for snack and lunch for four £8.20!!! Spent £15.87 on food shopping, making homemade pizza tonight which is slightly cheaper than buying some but tastes so much better - I make the base from scratch. I also have my big delivery coming tonight which will be £67.22.
Separated my spending money and kept the receipts separately which has helped, did end up spending most of it on the kids though! Also did some much needed clothes shopping for myself and DD some of it from the sales.Stay at home Mum to DS Oct 2011 and DD Dec 2013

Had a slightly uncontrolled 2nd week of the month and after part shop for next week am at just over £200 of my £360 budget. Should be OK as DH away for the last week so I will be making omelettes and lighter pasta dishes...taking tips from A Girl Called Jack and Delia's "One is Fun" book!
STILL throwing things away which is so annoying. Need a bigger fridge, which sounds contradictory, but the current one is so small I cram things in on top of each other and forget whats there!GC Feb 2019 (to 10th) £397.07/£3000 -
I've made lists of what is in our cupboards and freezer but none of it really seems to total up to actual meals... Which is a bit disconcerting :-/
£50 on our weekly shop, with another £8 at the local butcher. This is aside from the snack fail shops. Not terribly pleased with myself atm.
£240 spend so far, which is a bit too high I think although this a funny month - we started at the beginning of the month but are having to reach 10 May... :eek:0 -
Major freezer reorg today! Amazingly, no rubbish in it
I have all kinds of pastry need using up though.

Not even "random stew" or "adventure casserole"?2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
A spend today of £50.60. This was a cupboard and fridge restock plus toiletries.
I still need loads but I'm resisting the urge to blow all my budget in the first 3 days £36/£240

It's basically pasta (or other carb), fish, mixed veg and a few random bits like marmite. So not super...!0

I am indeed a bit stumped on that! Do fish and marmite work together?2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
A bigger shop than hoped for today - I'm still listing cupboard contents, and found that I didn't even have a tsp of baking powder for my weekend baking session.
Cue a quick look and rapid purchase of flour, baking powder, eggs and fruit and veg. I've baked Berry Breakfast Quinoa, cinnamon buns and blueberry oatmeal muffins. I'll be doing turkey meatballs and Ginger Cake tomorrow as well as Butternut Squash brownies and poached chicken and grilled tilapia for lunches next week.
Although the freezer is groaning I'm still cooking - I'm away for a week next month so DH needs everything ready to take out and eat. (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!):rotfl:
Still looking good though. I still need to finalise my MF order and sort out my budget. I am going to take January as the 'set-up' month, so on an monthly budget of £300 that would mean £3300 target of which I have spent £965.52. Bad, but I should be able to make it up over the summer when we eat a lot more salad and fish.
Could I change my challenge to annual please £3,600 (or £3,300 for the 11 months I'm counting)
Sorry to be a pain.Goals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0
