Hooray! Another NSD for me today :j
Spent most of today going through my finances and have worked out how much debt I have left. Almost 10 years after joining this site I've managed to pay off nearly £10,000 which has cut my debts in half! I know it's a great achievement but it's also a bit depressing thinking about all that wasted money. I'm still hoping to be debt free by the time I'm 40 (just under 6 1/2 years away) but it's going to take a lot of effort and probably a good dollop of luck! Haha!!
Wondered if I could get a bit of advice please? I bought some chicken thigh fillets a few weeks ago but then something came up and I knew I wouldn't have time to cook them before they went out of date so I put them in the freezer. The problem is that I'm not really sure about defrosting them or knowing if they are still ok or not. Last time I tried it I ended up putting the whole lot in the bin as it says to defrost them in the fridge for 24 hours, but after 36 hours in the fridge they were still mostly frozen and only a little bit defrosted so I left them out (covered) on the side for about 6 hours until they were definitely fully thawed. However, they looked a bit yellow and smelt a bit funny and even my cat wouldn't go near them so they went straight in the bin. I really don't want the same thing to happen again so are there any ways I can tell if the chicken is ok or not and should it really take that long to defrost or am I doing something wrong?! Any help or tips would me much appreciated and big thanks in advance:ADFW Nerd 145

I think chicken thighs can be a bit slimey, especially the skinned and boneless fillets. I don't ever fully defrost my chicken fillets, I would if there were bones involved.
I take mine out of the freezer the night before and they go straight into the fridge in a big dish. Then when I come to cook them because they are still a little firm they are so much easier to cut.
I use a lot of thigh fillets mostly in curry, husband says he much prefers them to breast. I do give them a long cook though.0 -
I leave frozen chicken out on the counter to thaw. I also have used 50% power in the microwave. I sometimes chunk them in the crockpot, frozen, on low. Lots of ways to thaw them out. If it smells funny then they are no good. Raw chicken really shouldn't have a smell.
My 6th NSD this month.
OH had enchiladas for dinner and I didn't have the right kind of cheese so I used a different kind. He was not pleased and would not eat all of it. I could not see making a trip to the store just for cheese. My motto is 'You get what you get and you don't throw a fit.':D He didn't say a word. :TOverprepare, then go with the flow.
