Spent £6.26 in lidl and got bread, vine tomatoes, apples, swede, peanut butter, roasted peanuts, a cucumber and a banana.
Think I have enough veg and fruit for the week, only need some eggs.
Also thinking of trying greek yogurt with some fruit/granola for a snack, will need to try it first and then work out whether it's worth the money.0 -
NSD yesterday, but a spend of five pounds odd in Sainsbugs top up shop tonight on milk, fruit, bread (10p loaves), some yellow sticker stir fry mixes (24p) and goodies for the kids (4 packs of decorated dohnuts 30p each).
I am attempting to spend less without anyone really noticing much difference, which isn't easy. Everyone in the house knows I'm cutting back the food bill but i think there might be tantrums if there is a shortage of goodies.
I need to get in the habit of batch cooking some meals at the weekends and doing at least 1 yellow sticker run a week. My weekdays consist mainly of work and sleep.Grocery Challenge Sept 2021 £95.40/£500

Managed another NSD today but I'm definitely going to have to buy some milk, fruit and veg tomorrow. Won't be getting lots though, just enough to keep me going till the weekend when I'll do a shared shop with my Mum
We both live on our own (and she's only 5 mins walk away) so we go and do a big shop together and share a taxi back to her house where we split our purchases and then carry my share round to mine. It works out much cheaper than a taxi each and means there is much less food waste as we will get big bags of things (fruit/veg etc) and split them rather than getting one each
I'm also treating myself to a haircut tomorrow!! Haven't had one since Feb 2015 and would be quite happy to not bother with another one for ages, but I'm maid of honour for my best friend at his wedding in less than 2 weeks and then a month later its my brother's wedding so I suppose I should attempt to make myself look half decent!! However, in true MSE style, I've got a friend coming to my house to cut it and she only charges £12.50!!! :j
Another portion of my super yummy curry for tea tonight and there are 2 more in the freezer for later in the month. AND I remembered to label them!!!! This might be standard for most people, but I often end up with loads of very similar looking frozen things and just have to guess what they are :rotfl:
Next goal: meal planning!!!:ADFW Nerd 145

A massive £7.05! Had to buy tights (different budget) and then I checked out the reduced aisles (avoiding cakes) and then I saw lots of my weird vegan stuff on special offer.
- 200g cashew nuts (for mock cheese, I have some cocktails gherkins it's delish with - should make about 2 pounds, I have all the agar, soy milk etc already)
- 4 x alpro go on which is a yummy greek style yogurt with a fruit compote
- 1 x violife cheese slices (to go on all the nut burgers in the freezer...) - will last for ages
- 2 x quinoa and veg soup mix
1 x 2 sweetcorn cobs
So dinner tomorrow had best be sweetcorn and something, and then there's lots of soup in my future!
to be back on track I need to do no shopping until I am back from visiting my parents on the 24th. Which should be ok; porridge pot for brekkie made and a chilli bread and tofu cheese sandwich ready for lunch. You need to be really organised about forward planning though!
I might pop into the same supermarket when I am in town anyway a week Wed - but no special trips to shop! Time to use the time properly reading books and stuff.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -

I love a game of freezer roulette! You microwave it you eat it, thems the rules My stewed rhubarb looks a bit like my beetroot soup when frozen.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
I'd also just like to say big thanks to everyone on the Old Style Board for being so friendly and helpful :T
So much nicer than other boards and other people! I asked a question earlier (with a bit of background info included) and quite literally got told 'not to be happy' and made to feel like an idiot. They didn't even bother to answer my question. I don't think they even read my post, just responded to the title of my thread! Grrrrrrrr!!!
Sorry!! Rant over!!!!
Hugs for everyone here and thanks again for being wonderful :grouphug::ADFW Nerd 145

Well, it's been a funny sort of week in the Cappella household.
All was going well until last Friday when it poured down and OH insisted on coming round the local market, A***i and Saynos with me  now I'm £13.76 OVER my budget for the whole month and the fridge is full of 'treats' that neither of us needs.
We have since sat down together and thrashed out the whole issue of housekeeping, which we haven't done since we both retired, so we're now singing from the same hymn sheet again. Allowances and apologies have had to be made by me for my lack of communication and control issues, and by him for pretty much the same things :rotfl:
We've agreed to live on what we have for the rest of the month, and to avoid ALL supermarkets until May 1st.
Pre-retirement the household budget was my sole responsibility (at my own insistence) and he was too busy to intervene. You'd think the bees, chickens and allotments would keep him busy enough now, but he will keep trying to be helpfulSo it was a much needed, and much avoided conversation!
