Research conducted by the University of Strathclyde’s Fraser of Allander Institute reveal over 500,000 Scottish jobs linked to trade with UK, as opposed to 125,00 linked to trade with EU.
Vote Independence and lose your job.

Actually I follow F + A on Twitter, saw this report tweeted this morning. Caused loads and loads of abject apathy. Though I see the Telegraph has bitten. The Telegraph really doesn't want Scotland to leave do they. Bless. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Which was obvious to anyone open minded. This is exactly why it's a form of fanaticism when I was derided by Indy supporters for showing the same institute quoting 1m jobs at risk from independence. The numbers have changed, but the outcome of the analysis hasn't.
Scots will vote with jobs, mortgages, and taxes in mind. Not conservative government, misguided beliefs in the dream of Alba or the hated English/Westminster.0 -

No Shakey what YOU do have to remember is that YOU are not the sharpest of persons intellect wise. A basic search by anyone with half a brain would have led you to realise this thread was not needed. There was already one covering it. Oh look shakey it's nearly 10k posts again...are you going to start another thread?0 -
On the topic of that Telegraph piece on the Fraser of Allander data.Keith Brown, the SNP’s Economy Minister, said: “These findings ignore the fact that trade is two way. Our own analysis shows exports to Scotland from the rest of the UK support over half a million jobs in the UK.
“Analysis also shows Scotland is the rest of the UK’s second largest export market, behind only the US, with exports worth over £50 billion. It is quite simply nonsense to suggest that the rest of the UK would cease trading with Scottish firms if we were inside the single market but outside the UK.”
What a load of crap that is. Typical response I'd expect, we've seen it on here.
We're leaving the EU, that's decided. The terms of the deal between the EU and the UK will determine the viability of Scottish independence. Kieth Brown clearly isn't the sharpest tool in the box.
As I've said numerous times previously.
A good deal between the EU and the UK and the independence argument is stronger - but then why leave when you can enjoy the lions share of jobs and trade kept safe and only suffer a very very small amount under good deal, if Scotland would suffer at all, after all the future there is unknown - is it not?
A bad deal and independence is dead in the water Nicola, Kieth, Shakey, et al. Dead - in - the - water. The numbers just do not stack up for you, sorry. A bad deal and you're with us through thick and thin, so why is the SNP so hell bent on trying to cause problems during negotiations? Another faux pas on their part I believe since they need a good deal to make the idea of independence work.
They're so incompetent, when are you indy supporters going to take the indy tinted specs off and look at the reality?0 -
Shakethedisease wrote: »No, you just really, really hope it will. You actually have no idea what's going to happen. May's likely to say No, but beyond that you're just guessing like everyone else. The request came from the Scottish nP Government. Westminster over riding the Scottish Government is a whole different constitutional level up, far beyond plain old "May telling Sturgeon how it is" while waving head from side to side with a duck face on. *
This is Scottish voters speaking to you through the Scottish Parliament they voted into power in order to carry out their wishes. If you personally think it's fine to dismiss this and consider it a 'hostile' act then that's your prerogative. I personally think it's going to be a big old constitutional mess and signals the end game of the union.
Oh - I would agree we are all having fun here double guessing who will say or do what, but it is a fact that May has not said NO. The SNP may be hoping she will and thus it suits their narrative to claim that she will say "No", I personally think she is more likely to say "Not now because ...... " which is a different thing entirely. It will be crucial to the reaction of Scots and any legal implications what follows after the " because ".
Examples could be ...
Starting point --- Too early
1 The timing of the proposed referendum is partial to the political agenda of the SNP and will damage the conduct of the negotiations, adversely affecting the future of Scottish people should they decide in the UK
2 Such is the nature of the disruption that a referendum would cause that it would not be in the national interests of the UK
3 The timing is such that the UK Government will be unable to release all information on the final deal for fear of predicting the outcome whereas the SNP will have no such inhibitions in presenting an unbalanced assessment.
4 Brexit negitiations will not be finalised until the agreement is fully rationalised and signed by both parties
5 A major factor for of the decision will be the extent to which other trade deals can be established and thus cannot be released until after Brexit.
6 Scottish voters need to know the facts of the choice they are being asked to make and not base that decision on partial and potentially misleading information
No doubt May could have other points to add, and in her style would probably be less verbose, but they all add up to a very good rationale for not agreeing to having a referendum at the time demanded by the SNP. In that respect I remind you, and anyone else reading this, that the SNP is seeking agreement to have the referendum as early as Oct 2018. That would no doubt come after a period when the SNP had, true to previous firm, seized every opportunity to put out false rumours and Fake News about the outcome of the negotiations while the UK Government was still greatly inhibited about what they could release into the public domain to counter the doom mongering.
So there is plenty there that can counter any claim that the UK would be treating anyone unfairly, but plenty to substantiate a charge of wilful mischief-making (which I call hostile) by the SNP in their unreasonable demands and disregard of the UK Constitution.
By the way --- What is a "Duck Face"?Union, not Disunion
I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.0
