I am honestly not sure at this point, will wait and see what happens over the next few months.

    Interesting times...

Yes it will be, a lot to consider and work out for many people I think ... hopefully the right choice is made this time :)

The fact is that Sturgeon caught the Tories well on the hop today.

Apologies if I yawn loudly. Sturgeon was boxing herself into a corner. Was only ever a question of when.
  • On reserved matters...

Not nonsense at all. They can go ahead and ask questions but those questions can not in any way lead to an action constitutionally without the nod from Westminster, no matter how you try to spin it.

The right to hold a referendum and acting on the result of it are two completely different things legally. One is specifically reserved ( acting on the result ) the other isn't specifically anything. There is nothing in the Scotland Act which bars the Scottish Govt from holding it's own consultative referendum at the time of the Scottish Govt's choosing.

And if you cannot see Sturgeon's request for a section 30 for what it is, ie putting the ball in the Tories court with an invitation to refuse then that's fine. May should say No outright and reap what she sows from it.

But lets be perfectly clear it's the 'right' to hold a referendum which is in question. Not any result which comes from it which if it's a Yes is unquestionably a reserved matter. Don't confuse the two.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Do you want PM May to hold off on any Scottish specific aspects when the A50 negotiations commence?

After all, it might be the case that the EU has to repeat these discussions anew with a separate entity.

I think May should focus on getting the best deal for those committed to the Union, tbh.
  • Delaying past Brexit, whenever that concludes, is in the interest of the citizens of the UK.

This is an unwanted complication to Brexit negotiations which the UK government is in control of. So it need not be a complication. I fully expect it not to be. I think she (Nicola) has jumped the gun.

I've said before that Scotland should get its economic ducks in a row, have the plan laid out, peer reviewed by all and sundry and behind a large number of indy positive polls indicating a consensus before actually having the referendum.
Oh goodness no. Since Brexit no one bothers with all that having ducks in rows and peer reviewed stuff before referendums. ;)

Sturgeon won't hold off until after the UK leaves. Staying in the Single Market is her red line and she won't cross it. Probably will do whatever it takes Section 30 refusals, court cases, elections if necessary in order to stay in and enable a vote before 2019. It's why she announced her intentions today. The window she's chosen as I've said is when the UK/EU deal is already known and goes to spend about 6 months being ratified in the EU parliament.

Yes, she should. The Scottish and NI/Ireland positions at the moment are already in play anyway. May isn't going to be able to negotiate assuming four nations of the UK will still be there by the end of 2019. Neither are the EU.

By the same token, Juncker doesn't know if the EU27 will still be 27 by the end of 2019 either.

Perhaps he should ignore the states with upcoming elections too. Oh and Greece...Germany can speak for Greece...and the Hungarians....troublesome lot.
