Sounds like sturgeon is getting desperate.

Speaking on the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland the First Minister said if the UK strikes a deal which allowed for continued access to the single market, and handed Scotland new powers over immigration, the SNP could put its push for independence “to one side”.

So she imagines that we will do what a small region of the country demands to stop them demanding independence again.

She will never stop demanding independence, and she has put this forward because she knows that we will not remain in the single market under the current circumstances.

We will retain access to the single market, so maybe she worded that wrongly. Everyone has access to it, they simply have to pay the rate that the protectionists demand.

Even if we bowed down to all her demands she would still demand an independance referendum.

She also seems to have forgotten that she needs to get permission from the UK or a referendum.

Sad that Sturgeon continues to voice this type of nonsense when it represents such a small piece of scottish voters opinion.

Every thought of speaking for the WHOLE of Scotland First Minister?

It's the most empty of empty threats, and she, (and everyone else), knows it.

There is absolutely no appetite for a 2nd referendum up here, let alone any desire to break away from rUK.

When we look back with the benefit of hindsight (in say 10-20 years) I think people will be amazed at the amount of people that at one point had been sucked in by the nationalist's spin.

That's the whole point of propaganda and the politics of the scapegoat I suppose. :(

It would seem Nicola is dithering about what a 'quick ' referendum means but it is likely to be a non binding commitment not to hold a legally binding Iscotland referendum for the period of the brexit negotiations.

Basically totally meaningless and contentless but gives her the usual mantra of how the vile English are insulting the decent people of scotland by not being enormously grateful to her.

Some of us said the canny Scots would not vote to leave a market worth 4x more than the EU market, and it seems Sturgeon knows this now.

I'm wondering what she's up to here though in her clumsy chess game? She knows a proper (hard) Brexit is more than possible, so what she's going to say if hard Brexit becomes a reality?

As I said before the UK will prosper anyway so the case for S Outland leaving and getting into the lumbering EU mess is fanciful

She will never stop demanding independence....

Difficult for the UK govt to form any kind of cohesive working relationship with the SNP when everything ends up in a threat.

Of course, trying to alienate the English so much that they can't wait to wave the Scots off is the only tactic available at the moment so expect it to continue.
Except that more and more Scots are starting to realise that the primary function of their devolved government should be to at least try to run their country with some semblance of credibility.

And while the great Nicola fiddles away and lets her country burn, the onlookers from her great friends in the EU will all wonder if admitting such a rabble onto their table is actually something they would ever be insane enough to consider.

Or the current spin has run out of momentum. Appears little more than a clumsy attempt to back track. Won't go down with her fervent supporters. As bound to leave a media void.......

Finished, the level of support has peaked. Nowhere left to turn for them now.

Just wish the rest of the country would get off their !!!! and kick them out of the local councils and Holyrood at the next time of asking so we don't have to listen to this tripe anymore.

    This isn't difficult people..
Soft Brexit - fine. Hard Brexit - separate Scottish deal or indy ref 2. It's not difficult to see where this is heading at all.
And just for added clarity these are Sturgeon's/May's choices.
    a) The UK will stay in the single market, and free movement of people will be retained.

    OR

    b) The UK will transfer enormous powers to the Scottish Parliament, including powers that are generally only associated with a sovereign state, to enable Scotland to remain in the single market after the rest of the UK leaves.

    OR

    c) Genuine Devo Max will be granted as compensation for Hard Brexit occurring without any special status for Scotland within Europe.

    OR

    d) There will be a second independence referendum by 2020.
Either it's a Soft Brexit for the UK, a Soft Brexit for Scotland or another indyref. Been that way since the Brexit vote in June. Sturgeon's comments today are entirely consistent, will be repeated again probably on Marr on Sunday.

Once May clarifies 100% that options a, b and c are not going to happen to Scots voters, this leaves the way clear for Sturgeon to go ahead with d saying she's done all she could to ensure Scotland's remain vote is enacted but sadly... Independence referendum legislation and consultation period are going through Holyrood now in preparation 'just in case'.
#indyref2 appears more likely than a soft Brexit currently
Nicola Sturgeon ‏@NicolaSturgeon 9h9 hours ago Reasonable assessment. But @ScotGovFM compromise proposals for so-called 'soft' Brexit put forward in good faith. Ball is in PM court.
    .... a, b or c.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

    No lol, that's tosh.
The growing link in voters' minds between Scotland's constitutional future and their attitude towards the EU makes Edinburgh a city to watch.

Some 74% of people in Scotland's capital voted Remain, among the highest in the UK.

This means there is a danger for Labour that its lack of clarity over Brexit could be as damaging in Scotland's capital as its Unionism is in Glasgow.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has a new constituency of educated, middle-class voters who are much more open to independence, and potentially the SNP.
The local government elections in May will be the first big indication of whether Edinburgh, like Glasgow, could become a 'Yes' city, and what might happen across Scotland in a second independence referendum.

lol that's all a journo's opinion of people in Edinburgh. I'm sure he's spoken to all 70% odd and confirmed their appetite for independence...

Remain voters are not by default independence voters. That will be yet another mistake made by the SNP and the independence movement. Is anyone keeping a list? I'll be keen to contribute.
