And then they won.

There's also a good chance that the next boundary changes in Scotland, which UK-wide at least tend to favour the Tories, will be done before the next Scottish Elections as they must be done every 8-11 years and were last done in 2011.

Best not get too comfy eh?
Of course not. But at the end of the day, there was an electoral roll change regarding registration. One that was alarming enough, especially in Fife and in other areas to be debated in Holyrood a few months ago. Many have fallen off the register since last year.
Flashy wee gifs regarding % changes from 2011 aren't really telling the whole truth or are directly comparable now are they. Boundary changes will affect everywhere in the UK terms of favouring the Tories. Lets not pretend it's a Scottish issue. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Much of it a direct swing from SNP to Conservative.
That's a huge number of rural and northern constituencies distinctly underwhelmed with the SNP compared to last time....
With reference to Generali's point about it getting harder to keep people happy the longer you govern, wonder if the farm payments fiasco had anything to do with it?
Hamish I've already agreed with you over the Tory 'surge' and the SNP vote going westwards, I thanked your post pointing it out. No need to labour the point.
However, as per post above, electoral role changes were made, and there was a much bigger Tory vote. However, despite that Swinney's going to be around for at least another 5 years. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Not too sure why you showed those pictures. They just show that she is different from the general run-of-the-mill politicians. She looks fun, and appears bright and intelligent when you hear her speak.
Why not ? Hamish posts hilarious ones up of Alex Salmond all the time ? Anyway, we're all going to be seeing a lot more of these particular pictures in future from all these hilarious photo shoots. May as well get used to it. They'll be memed and used widely every time Ruth has a serious point to make sadly. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

I'm not familiar with how voter registration is being organised in Scotland but why is the SNP government making it so hard for Scots voters to register?0 -

Is a reserved matter Clapton. The Scottish Govt add the 16 and 17 year olds on to the roll for Scottish elections.Electoral Commission says 770,000 names were deleted in change to registration rules as critics claim Tories are ‘rigging the system’Almost 800,000 potential voters were deleted from the electoral register under government changes to the system, official figures have confirmed.
The Electoral Commission said about 770,000 names were removed from the register as the government introduced the requirement that people sign up as individuals rather than as households.
It was a change that probably needed made from the old household system. It'll take time for the electorate and registers to catch up though. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

It is also a fact that every single party represented at Holyrood wants to be part of it. Whether they're right or wrong is neither here nor there, the referendum will decide that.
Europe is becoming increasingly driven by Nationalisation at a regional level. Doesn't fit in with the collective socialism of the wider aims of the EU. Self interest rules.0 -
Didn't take long. Never thought I'd see the day we'd be hearing ex high heid yins ( ie big name MP's ) in Scottish Labour like Sarwar ever mulling over Home Rule for Scotland. Especially after the referendum campaign he fought.Scottish Labour under pressure to revisit case for home rule
Former deputy leader says lack of clear position on Scotland’s future in the UK to blame for defeat in Holyrood elections.
Anas Sarwar, Scottish Labour’s former deputy leader, said their heavy defeat, coming third behind the Tories, was chiefly because the party failed to represent the hundreds of thousands of former Labour voters who were still focused on the country’s future in the UK.
Sarwar, who is expected to take a senior frontbench role after winning a Holyrood seat on Thursday, said finding a middle way between nationalism and unionism was the “fundamental challenge” still facing the party.
We can expect ( a slightly bemused ) SNP to be fully supportive and welcoming of this policy should it come to pass, with 100% co-operation... up until the 'Westminster retains part powers' bit. :TIt all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
