our current govt is likely to be far more compliant with the requests of big business than the EU.
The SM and Customs Union act as barriers to entry to smaller players. At least if we know only Westminster sets poor rules, we know who to blame and who to shout at.
It's a hysterical exaggeration to say we don't have access to that larger market now.
Impinged access, which particularly hurts a nation of slavish rule followers like Britain.
I'm not talking about workers rights - I'm talking about the shallow populism and rampant xenophobia currently plaguing the Conservative party - which risks destroying much of what is Great about Britain.
Managed, proportionate immigration will be something we can all get behind, dignity and order returned - and if not, Mrs May is out - no more blaming Brussells. Take back control.
I'm a life long Conservative voter.
But what I heard from the latest party conference was absolutely repugnant.
Tim Farron is your man then, pious, arrogant, sanctimonious and wearing a face of imperious effrontery that people would dare have the temerity to not buy into his 'evidence based, compassionate, wholesome thought' lore.
Me in red. Take back control, restore order and dignity, bring society back together.
A continuance of the liberal agenda would tare us apart, people hate self framing victimhood that affords great advantage and impunity (grown men from Calais, 40% of whom have STD's, gaming the system and being placed near vulnerable British kids)0 -

Lobbyists will lobby - it makes no difference to them if it's in London or Brussels - and our current govt is likely to be far more compliant with the requests of big business than the EU.
We would not be subject to the lobbying preferences of those in other countries to the detriment of our own outside the political union.
Brussels brings it all together in one place for those with special interests. It makes it easier for them to impose their will on us. It's a rotten idea.HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »It's a hysterical exaggeration to say we don't have access to that larger market now.
But what we have in addition to that is hugely preferential access to the EU which is also right on our doorstep.
I didn't say we don't have access to the wider world right now, but it would certainly be easier if we had access to create our own trade deals around the world AND have access to the single market as we currently do. That is undeniable logic, it presents us with the opportunity to make the best of both worlds.HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »I'm not talking about workers rights - I'm talking about the shallow populism and rampant xenophobia currently plaguing the Conservative party - which risks destroying much of what is Great about Britain.

Not all Conservative MP's would agree with that which was said, and certainly the opposition - for what it's worth - would also not agree. The Conservatives will have to retain the centre ground at the expense of those on the right in order to remain electable, I would therefore expect to see Conservative defectors keeping this element in check at a minimum!
It's your prerogative to get all flustered about a speech, but if a vote ever comes around to kick all EU migrants out of the country, or to make them second class citizens, something truly xenophobic as actual proposed legislation to parliament you will see the true measure of UK politics. Until then everyone is getting hysterical over speeches.0 -
Thank God for Scotland. That there is a place in the British Isles where people are welcome regardless of their accent, their nationality, or their sexuality, is a cause for celebration.
I have never been but I can just imagine that a fellow can travel up from England, go into a pub in Glasgow and receive hearty cheer and welcome and a round of drinks from educated locals.0 -

Of course you haven't been.
You're from London, home to that Westminster place which so many SNP fanatics love to hate.
You probably think Scotland is that blobby bit on the map next to Yorkshire.
Did you get most of your research from Braveheart or Brigadoon?0 -

That sort of depends, walking around bars after (or before) an 'old firm' game with an English accent can be interestingChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

I don't know if you're taking the proverbial **** or just misinformed/delusional.
I suspect you are being deliberately provocative.
Generally speaking, Scotland is no more or less tolerant than any other part of Britain.
I'm Scottish, lived here for 53 years; I feel as welcome, (sometimes more), in my favourite London and Newcastle pubs that I do in pubs a mile from my house.
Scotland.
Utopia it is not
Intolerance free zone it is not.0 -

Regular occurences in Glasgow suggest otherwise. Some things are only skin deep. Independence could peel away the veneer of respectability and reveal a more disturbing nature.0 -

I'm beginning to think you're paid to wind people up, or you get some sick enjoyment from it. You're contributing little but provocation.0 -

You do know that rugged is just a bored WUM don't you?
Everything he posts is purely designed to antagonise and generate a response.
