Interesting that they've dropped the idea of independence like a hot rock.

The rest of it is the usual flim flam about how the Government is much better at spending money than you are so will continue to wee as much of it up the wall as possible.

I like the stealth tax increase: increasing the 40p tax band with inflation rather than wages thus dragging ever more of the middle class into paying more and more tax.

It's not exactly dropped though is it ? It's just delayed till they think the time is right ...

Really cant beleive SNP are going to try for independance again, their whole argument was based on oil being $130 a barrel it dropped to $32 leaving scotland a 15B deficeit, luckily they were still part of the uk or they would be almost bankcrupt if that had voted out. SNP misleading scots imo, as they want to remain part of EU... So not true independance at all just changing your masters really. I dont see after the last mess how they can try to sway people again.

This shows just how very little you know

The SNP leaders aren't stupid, they know that with oil prices where they are independence is a pipedream. I can't see another referendum unless prices head up to substantially closer to the $100/bbl mark.

Incredibly simplistic. I'm guess there will be quite a few more No voters changing their minds after today should this below pan out the wrong way. :( Time and patience, sit back and let the Tories do the rest. Like you say the SNP leaders aren't stupid. There's more to any future Yes vote persuasion than oil prices. Much more.
Unions have accused the government of “total betrayal” as it emerged that up to 800 redundancies from Clydeside shipyards could result from backsliding on David Cameron’s pledge to provide a steady stream of orders to safeguard the industry. Representatives of the joint trade unions from the Scotstoun and Govan shipyards were told by BAE Systems at a meeting on Friday morning that a “worst-case scenario” of 800 redundancies was possible if the UK government pulled back from its commitment to the manufacture of eight type-26 frigates on the Clyde.

GMB Scotland understands that these cuts would result in outsourcing up to 20% of work from the upper Clyde to yards in England over the lifetime of the frigate contract, which has already been delayed until the end of 2017...

..The multimillion-pound contract was announced by David Cameron in February 2015, having been delayed until after the Scottish independence referendum, in which the future of shipbuilding on the Clyde was a key issue. Pro-union campaigners said loss of contracts would be inevitable if Scotland became independent because UK military ships could only be built in UK shipyards.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

After independence the economies would have slowly diverged anyway.

I don't see the problem. The SNP need to reduce the number of jobs which rely on the state, directly or indirectly. Only that way will you have a chance of balancing the books.

We're not independent yet. Balancing the books and defence procurement is Westminsters job. Nothing to do with the SNP. Also, Scots voters don't suffer from wholesale collective amnesia.

Clyde shipbuilding going definitely would be a problem.

Why doesn't Scotland compete by offering lower cost worlkforce? Maybe the guys could accept pay cuts and the SNP could reduce income taxes

plus it is a depleting resource. The argument was not just that oil would stay at $100 but that oil would increase in price continuously while output fell.

Basing your entire future on the price of a "volitile" commodity always reaching record price highs was always going to be hiding to nothing.

I wonder how long this lot will keep the faith as year after year grinds past without a sniff of another referendum? The SNP is getting comfy with a share of power now and the perks that come with it. There's no pressure for a referendum from that side.

We give you £35m in taxes for our oil and big Davy breaks his promise about saving jobs on the Clyde if we vote No

Keep the faith ? If you think indy in Scotland comes down to pure finances for everyone your sadly mistaken :)
