Have to say that I'm surprised at the likes of Loki and Mike Small ( BellaCaledonia ) not seeing that they're being played as useful idiots in order to split the vote and deny the SNP a majority. A majority that's needed if there's to be a future indy ref. Pure stupidity from 'pro-indy' advocates imo. Arguing about who is or isn't being radical or left enough when they should be concentrating fire on the Tories and Labour right now. Is true what they say about the left always destroying themselves with infighting.
Aye I saw Loki's post, now I can understand where he is coming from but .... he is beating that horse to death with a stick, I've landed up unfollowing him, if I heard I don't support the snp once I've heard it a million times, I even congratulated him at first for finally making up his mind ( he tossed and turned often on it ... must've been a tough choice to make)
But he's going on and on and on and on ... yawn
Vote for who you want to, it's your vote ... I don't agree with everything the snp do, and often get annoyed at them, but I still know they are the best of a bad bunch ... and RISE don't stand a chance just now0 -
Hmm. So that's why Nicola wanted to keep it secret until after the election.

Enjoyed this line.Nicola Sturgeon’s halo has slipped badly; by 2020 it may be around her neck.

Is back up above her head again.Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish National party is to offer new parents in Scotland a free “baby box” of clothes, nappies and toys, with a built-in mattress allowing the box to be used as a baby’s cot, in an effort to tackle infant poverty rates.
The measure will be based heavily on Finland’s “maternity package” scheme which has run for more than 80 years. With a 95% take-up rate, it has been credited with cutting the Finnish infant death rate from 10% to 0.2%.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Australia used to have a 'baby bonus' payable on the birth of each child but scrapped it after claims that junkies were having babies to get the money and then abandoning them.
It seems that a baby bonus is part of the proposed package.
Do Scottish people never wonder where all this money is coming from as their leading industry goes down the gurgler?0 -

I don't know the answer to this, but I'd be interested to see corresponding figures over time. However I would hazard a guess that if measured over 80 years, most European countries will have seen a similar drop. In which case it is correlation rather than causation. Much more likely to be down to improvements in paediatric care, more sanitary domestic situations, overall reduction in poverty, etc, than a box. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

The introduction of antibiotics alone will have had vastly more impact than a box.
The SNP seem pretty long on gimmick.0 -

The Finnish cot death rate is 0.2%, in Scotland/UK ? it's 0.37 %. A lot of the things in the baby boxes are already handed out free via midwives, docs and health visitors. Makes sense to hand them out at birth. Is a good 'gimmick'. Other countries/regions are trialing the same.January 3, 2016
Hundreds of pregnant women across Alberta will receive a cardboard box full of newborn essentials this year as part of a University of Calgary research study funded by a $500,000 government grant the late MLA Manmeet Bhullar announced in 2014. The pilot project is based on Finland’s famous baby boxes — a starter kit every new mom in the Nordic country has received since 1938. The box contains diapers, clothes, books, blankets, as well as a tiny mattress, transforming the cardboard box into a crib a baby can safely sleep in.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

It will be an interesting experiment to see if a box of stuff will reduce the number of cot deaths (or is it infant mortality?)0
