Aye the Gers figures will be good fun for a laugh through the week ... I'm looking forward to the mouth frothing
I had someone tell me yesteady that if article 50 isn't called soon and if it's not a real brexit there will be riots ... better get my supplies in then was my reply ...0 -
Today's twitter laugh has been all about strawberries ... honestly some people need to take a chill pill.0

God the GERS stuff bores me to tears these days. It's always the same hysterics from the media and arguments going back and forth. Half of Scotland don't trust the figures and the other half are far too desperate for them to be absolutely 100% true.
I just find it weird that the Scottish Govt are releasing them so early ( this will be the 2nd lot this year ). I'd love to know the reason.
The strawberries lol.. some people have too much time on their hands. But as I keep saying, it's silly season. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Thought Nicolas pre-emptive strike of life after brexit in UK was aimed at muddying the water for tomorrow0

And personally I think we're already there with the 50.1%.. just need a few Brexit moves first, and a cobbled together British Bill of Rights to be pushed through to seal the deal. It's silly season at the moment, the real work starts when politics does again. Let's see Theresa's real mettle on Brexit first shall we ? I think we're in for some serious can kicking down the road though, and if Brexit was such a fab idea, Article 50 would've been triggered already. The fact that there's talk of 'waiting until the German and French elections first' in 2017 tells us all we need to know. They've no actual idea what they're doing and hence are too scared to do anything.
Nicola should sit, wait and laugh when it all goes t**s up as it all inevitably will.
it is the silly season and you are being silly
there is not a snow balls chance in hell that Nicola will fight for a referendum unless the polls show 60 % ish :
article 50, german/french elections, bill of rights, things going wrong might all be amusing but have nothing to do with 60% necessary before nicola will start 'demanding' a new referendum0 -

She'll go for it when Article 50 is triggered if there's any chance Scotland is out of the single market, among other things. Regardless of what the polls say. This is independence's best chance for the foreseeable future, other than another Conservative govt in 2020 or sooner.
But one must wait until the timing is right, and Theresa May finally reveals what a Brexit will look like and we all finally know where we stand. Scotland's indy hopes can all be put in ice for a bit longer, as there's not a chance May will be able to keep everyone happy with whatever she decides. NI, Gibraltar, Spain and Scotland all wait with baited breath... As does Iain Duncan Smith and Farage's triumphant comeback if there's to be FOM.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

I am really looking forward to tomorrow, what shall we learn about the state of our economy?
It really is quite hilarious to see the usual suspects getting the excuses in first.

The GERS conundrum is really quite complex.
On the 12th march 2014 Salmond said
"First Minister Alex Salmond said: “Today’s GERS report confirms what independent commentators and analysts have been making clear: Scotland is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. The figures show that tax revenues generated in 2012-13 were £800 higher per head in Scotland compared with the UK, meaning that now for every one of the last 33 years, tax receipts have been higher in Scotland than the UK"
Lets move on 9th march 2016.
"What explanation, other than total panic, can be attributed to the fact that both First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and John Swinney, her deputy, are to turn up at an Edinburgh event on Wednesday to present us, we must assume, with a barrowload of excuses about how everything they promised us in the 2014 referendum turned out to be little more than a wing, a prayer and a hope that all would be all right on the night in an independent Scotland.
That it takes two of them to rubbish the Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland ( or GERS for short) figures is interesting; after all how many Nats does it take to tell the world, never mind the voters, that they got it horribly wrong"

Amateur.Gers was conceived as a political, not as a statistical, exercise. We know this because the original correspondence from the then Secretary of State, Ian Lang, was leaked some years ago - he wanted it to "undermine the other parties", saying "this initiative could score against all of them".
Thus, it is used by the Tories to talk of subsidies or Labour of black holes. The first is as ludicrous as taking the financial sector out of London finances while the second places the debate in an artificial context. The UK has a budget deficit this year of GBP34bn, a non-oil deficit of GBP45bn, and accumulated debt of GBP500bn. In Wendy's looking-glass world, this UK black hole should be immediately filled by swingeing tax rises, or does her brand of logic only apply to Scotland?
Gers is also two years out of date, and merely by adjusting for this year's oil revenues, which have doubled to more than GBP10bn, and allowing for the UK deficit, the "subsidy" flows in 2007 from north to south. That is before making any other corrections - for example, the clear counting of English-only departmental expenditure as part of the Scottish total.
Alex Salmond, MP, 17 Maiden Street, Peterhead. 2006.
We've been here before luv well before any real prospect of independence was a twinkle in any Yes voter's eye. GERS is same old, same old yawn inducing stuff that's headline news for a few days and always was. Nothing has changed since 2006 and before. Salmond is a politician at the end of the day using good GERS years the same way others use bad GERS years. There have been more good years than bad over the last decade or so which seems to have been airbrushed out of history.
Sturgeon announced today she was creating her own Brexit minister to look out for Scotland's angle re Brexit negotiations. It probably won't happen, but I'd totally laugh my socks off if it was Salmond since hes the EU spokesperson already in Westminster. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Nearly forgot Corbyn's advisor in Scotland today...Neil Findlay MSP @NeilFindlay_MSP 7h7 hours ago I have been waiting for over 2 months on an FOI asking for the Scottish Govt's Brexit planning - still no reply - I wonder why????
Errrrr. Wrong Govt I think Neil, if you're wondering. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
