Shake, Leanne, bald electrician and any other Yessers ... common social is launching today at 12, it's gonna be a great place ( once it's up and running) to plan building the country we want, should be good for indy ref 2 as well0

Used to live in Irvine myself many moons ago, was a bit shocked to find the Tories gained ground, I don't think that it's through love of the Tories though ( but I accept I could be wrong )
You have me curious now Shake ... have spoke to a few people on twitter from Irvine and wonder if we've spoke lol
I don't tweet much. I prefer to read on Twitter so I avoid getting blocked from those on the 'other side'.Small world though.. I'm Ayrshire born and bred, but lived in England for many years, then moved back.
I suspect the rise of the Tory vote is a combination of those that can't stand Corbyn, what's left of the old guard OO and mainly imo... Labour voters simply staying at home not bothered as they don't see the point in voting anymore. Certainly was a shock to me that my retired union rep dad who's never missed an election in his voting life - couldn't bring himself to go out and vote in the Holyrood elections in May. There will be many like him sadly. Probably why turnout was down as well. Old school Labour are staying at home.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
It's not rocket science, those interested in preserving the Union in Scotland are beginning to vote Tory. It's as if Nationalists thought that Unionist voters in Scotland would conveniently split their vote among three other parties ad infinitum. Welcome to Ulster style binary politics Scotland.
In that case time is definitely on independence advocates side. Those most interested in preserving the Union are generally over 60 with a clear majority clean sweep of those for independence in the under 55's. The same is true of both Tory and Labour voters in Scotland. Another ref is a few years away yet, since Brexit looks like being a very looooong drawn out affair until anything actually happens, if at all.
It won't stay 'binary' for very long as far as the constitution goes.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Its not that the Tories gained ground its more that others lost ground and the Tory vote held up
One thing the tories are good at is getting their vote out- when the turnout is as low as 20% this makes a difference.
This is common and was exlpained to me by a local SNP person (I am from Kilmarnock and know Irvine quite well)
When the general election comes the turnout goes up and things become more predicatable.baldly going on...0 -
Next year will hopefully see more SNP councils which will mean the snp can no longer keep blaming councils for things ... but it will also mean labour will have lost their last stronghold in Scotland
I'm looking forward to the results next year0 -
I am really struggling to understand this.
Yes, I can see that Scotland may want to be independent.
But then you want to join the EU and lose that independence.
It will not be long before they turn the EU into a superstate. At that point all countries in the EU will cease to exist. They will probably put something into place which means it is impossible for any country to leave after the shock of a country actually democratically voting to leave. Democracy is something that will no longer be allowed.
So you want to be subservient part of a superstate with no control of what happens to your oil/fish/any other natural resource, have to allow anyone from any part of that state in without any background checks, have your banking/interest rate set at the rate appropriate for Germany, have to use the Euro, and anything else the EU can think up.
Have you not noticed the once thriving economies of places like Greece and Italy are really struggling, centralised banking etc really does not suit such diverse economies.
To be honest I think you would be better off staying in the UK, at least you have more and more power being devolved to you and you can decide how you spend a lot your income. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
This arguement has been done to death ... either read back so you can catch up or if you can't see both sides then there's no point really in answering as you wouldn't accept any discussion/ explanation0
