It is fun watching the labour meltdown up here ... really hope down south they manage to salvage something, fingers crossed Corbyn wins again.
I did have reservations about him winning the first time, not that I didn't think he was the best thing for labour I always did think that, and still do, labour need to get back to its roots ...but I was scared of the impact his winning might have had for indy ... now that that isn't going to happen I am quite happy to support him more fully
Think it was Liz I wanted to win last time ...0 -

Most will be quite happy to accommodate a fair bit of it ( Mhari Black, Tommy Sheppard among others )... but lets not forget that in order to win independence that it's wavering 2014 No voters to the right of those that have to be won over.
Until independence though, like in 2014 Sturgeon would be more than happy to do any deal that keeps the Tories out. UK Labour are coming around to the fact that it might be a possibility to at least try. Scottish Labour are having absolutely none of it. I don't think Kezia will last much longer though if Corbyn wins again. Imo Alex Rowley ( the deputy ) and others like Neil Findlay are only biding their time, perhaps until the local council elections are over.
Yep I agree I reckon the clock is ticking for Kez ...0 -

I hope so. I feel sorry for her.. but everything is always stalemate. Never going one way or the other for fear of upsetting left/right/unionists and then going into hiding when it hits the fan like over Brexit.I’m not actually sure what the policy of the Labour party in Scotland is about any of the big questions facing us. But then neither is the Labour party in Scotland. Kezia’s faction seems to be clinging to the vague hope that somehow, perhaps with the judicious use of Kezia’s magic cloak of invisibility, the whole question of Scotland being dragged out of the EU against its will can be made to go away. We don’t want to see Scotland leave either Union, say Labour bods, without any clear idea of how they’re going to achieve that. ...
... it’s pretty easy to see why she’s avoiding that question. It would mean that she’s got to argue on the one hand why Scotland can’t have a second independence referendum, because we all have to respect the will of the voters in 2014, but on the other hand it’s imperative to have another referendum on the EU, because the will of the voters in 2016 doesn’t have to be respected. All that the latest episode in the self-inflicted death of Labour in Scotland proves is that the party is lost in a fantasy of its own creation. Labour doesn’t want to deal with the hand that’s been dealt to Scotland by the Unionist establishment that Labour fought to defend.
Spot on here from Paul. And don't we all just know it.
Ian Murray MP not holding back tonight. No deal with the SNP from Scottish Labour. So, the new Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, the new Shadow Defence Secretary, the Shadow Chancellor (who voted for Full Fiscal Autonomy and told me to "F*** Off" when I tried to discuss it with him), and Jeremy Corbyn believe that we should do a deal with the SNP.
This couldn't be more wrong.
The choice is now clear for Scottish Labour members and supporters. If you believe in the UK and think this is wrong then you must vote for Owen Smith.
Remember the Tories spending millions on billboard posters across marginal seats in England and Wales at the General Election in 2015 with the picture of Ed Miliband in Salmond's pocket with "vote Conservative"? It cost labour dozens of seats in England and Wales.
With Owen Smith: No deal with a party that wants to break up the UK.
With Jeremy Corbyn: Alliance with the SNP.
Clear choice for members in Scotland. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

And the fact that Sturgeon did so directly and not through Westminster channels is significant. This would've been completely unthinkable barely two years ago.
The fact that it was all over German tv was an added bonus too ! Fabulous.
BBC Scotland hardly mentioned it. And most UK media went to great pains to paint Roth as a lowly insignificant nobody. Par for the course these days and not surprising. But we can all read between the lines. In 2014 Sturgeon or Salmond would've been stonewalled.
Don't get over excited. Germans are traditionally very formally polite. But don't let that politeness fool you. Actually I know fine well it hasn't, and you're just doing your normal SNP propaganda for occasional readers of this thread.
She is being tolerated , no more, no less. If she keeps this up she will eventually be snubbed. At the moment Europe and Germany's politicians, the ones facing elections in the near future have enough to be thinking about. Not forgetting their people. Sturgeon and her attempt at playing statesman on the EU stage with her incomprehensible 'we're in uncharted territory rhetoric' is as welcome on German TV screens as a swarm of midgies in a spacesuit.
Anyway, the good news is the Sturgeon's father failed to win the Irvine West bye election for councillor. Imagine Irvine residents had heard of the conditions some of Sturgeon's own constituents have been enduring for years, under her control and thought no thanks.0 -

Won't Corbyn resonate with the traditional working class Scottish labour supporter. As he's pro Brexit puts himself in a different camp to the SNP.0 -
I imagine part of the traditional labour here will be happy with him, but they also realise we have Kez running labour here .... I think also the latest behaviour of labour has done them a huge damage0
-
And then with today's latest news on labour ... Oh my ... they dug the hole deeper .. I'm starting to think even Corbyn may not save them0

SNP: 37.5% (+0.7)
LAB: 33.1% (-7.1)
CON: 20.6% (+8.6)
SLP: 4.2% (+2.6)
GRN: 3.0% (+3.0)
LD: 1.5% (-3.2)
Lab elected stage 6.
Once again lovely to see your mind reading skills when it comes to Irvine constituents ( of which I'm one ). Thanks for letting me know.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Used to live in Irvine myself many moons ago, was a bit shocked to find the Tories gained ground, I don't think that it's through love of the Tories though ( but I accept I could be wrong )
You have me curious now Shake ... have spoke to a few people on twitter from Irvine and wonder if we've spoke lol0 -

It's not rocket science, those interested in preserving the Union in Scotland are beginning to vote Tory. It's as if Nationalists thought that Unionist voters in Scotland would conveniently split their vote among three other parties ad infinitum. Welcome to Ulster style binary politics Scotland.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0
