If there wasn't an argument for moving the UK parliament from London, there is now.

The jury retires to consider Salmons's verdict of inappropriate groping.

Not really.  Where would you find a building big enough to house it?  This is a temporary blip, not ideal but we will get through it and things will continue in some form of normal.

Where would you suggest moving it to?  Considering it is not just parliament but all the associated offices.

In the past, people have proposed moving it to the Midlands or the North of England; it's been suggested that they could use Birmingham Library or Manchester Town Hall

Salmond could have been, "better man" his barrister tells the court, but he denies allegations of groping. And fiddling. If he is also accused of that.

I think a lot of it is about transport links. It would be impractical to move everything that is based in a Capital city to another city, it is not just about government, it is about all the associated services and things like embassies.

Well Birmingham's the convention capital of the country as it's so accessible. Germany recently moved its capital 300 miles away although admittedly it's maybe not the best example as I don 't think it's any more central than in its original location.

  • "Herd immunity" . Sit back and let it happen eh.
Basically, sacrificing the elderly and the vulnerable with underlying conditions in order to minimise economic disruption.
Sounds suspiciously like a Dom Cummings idea.

Sounds suspiciously like an idea that exists only in your head.
Sounds suspiciously like what actually happened.

It certainly is not the best example, it was due to re-unification.  As what Scotland want to do is totally the opposite why would we move parliament any closer to Scotland?  If that is what this is about, then maybe Scotland should move their council buildings closer to London and start allowing us to send representatives.  Have to admit it annoys me that Scotland sometimes decide to vote on things that should be EVEL (such as stopping shops opening longer hours on Sunday because they didn't want competition for their shops) but get to have an entirely separate parliament of their own.

Excuse me but what planet are you living on please?
Because you very obviously do not have either children or grandchildren.
If you did you would know that almost every single one of them over a certain (but not as old as suggested) age has at least one social media account, often more.
That's how children today communicate with each other.
Added to that, by far most children nowadays play games via either console or computer and nowadays games don't often come on a disc you know; no, they require broadband.
It's almost a necessity for any child, like their mobile phone or tablet.
These "poor kids who don't have access to resources" just do not exist in any number except in your wild imagination.
    You're years behind the times.
"over a certain age" - exactly. You're not technically allowed to sign up to most social media accounts until 13. So that rules out everyone in primary school.
It's also not a fair assumption to assume they've all got mobiles, consoles and broadband - many do but with growing poverty many don't.
reckons that 700,000 secondary school age kids don't have internet access at home, and 60,000 have no internet access at all.
That's before you consider parents who need to cut costs back due to unemployment - dropping internet packages, running out of electricity credit etc.
