He doesn't, but whilst we're talking about a fictional bridge we're not talking about the U turns on the border in the Irish sea. It'd potentially be useful for an independent Scotland and unified Ireland, since it'd open up haulage routes via Fife. The same money would pay for an awful lot of ferries though.4

That's supposedly cost £200m, which is 1.6% of the £12bn the bridge is meant to cost.We should be able to run a ferry better than that. This FOI https://www.gov.scot/publications/foi-17-01484/ shows that ferries cost something like £50m a year to run, or 0.4% of this bridge cost. That means we could run a ferry for 243 years for what the bridge is "estimated" to cost. Even if those figures are an order of magnitude out, and the running costs are £500m/year, that's still 24 years worth of ferries for the "estimated" build cost. The reality is we'd be looking at at least double, and the bridge will need some major repair work within 50 years.

The fleet requires some serious investment. Not least to go "green".

There was an outfit that wanted an independent Scotland linked to Ireland via train bridges or tunnels via the Isle of Man. Might haver been the Scottish Democratic Alliance, but not sure. Didn't expect to see it revived.
I don't think the SNP are looking over their shoulder at them with serious concern. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker3 -
When Scotland declares independence, how flexible are they likely to be on the deadline for English people moving there and applying for residency? Will we need to be resident before independence is declared, or will there be a grace period?
For most English people who don't want to be a part of Airstrip 1, English speaking EU Scotland is the most viable route to remaining part of the world.
What's the attitude up there to English immigrants? We aren't all Tory voting xenophobes!0 -
We're very pro migration, anyone is welcome to join our socialist dystopia(It's one of the more stark differences between Scotland and England)5
