Anyone who knows the south west of Scotland well?
I am deciding where to settle and eventually buy a home, my budget has priced me out of Glasgow.
So I can live pretty much anywhere from Girvan/Maybole through Ayr and up to Paisley.
I don't know Ayrshire that well having only lived in the very bottom on the cusp of Galloway so any advice on where is nice/where to absolutely avoid will be greatly appreciated.

I'd seen mention yesterday that Scotland is currently supplying more electricity to England than France does.

That alone should get us a good trade deal with the UK

The UK buys a lot more stuff from the EU than it sells to it. Using your impeccable logic, that should get us a good trade deal with them.

Scotland has worst drugs problem in Europe as death rate soars
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/07/16/scotland-has-worst-drugs-problem-europe-death-rate-soars/

Scotland’s drugs death rate is now higher than the USA and every other country in Europe, and three times the UK average
    Ah, that "arc of prosperity"!

a large percentage of those who died - 792 - had also taken pills such as diazepam and etizolam....It was reported last month that these "street valiums" can be bought for less than the price of a chocolate bar, at just 30p a pill in central Glasgow
But can you get deep-fried diazepam?

and today we hear England and Wales have their highest drugs death rate ... any death is tragic, and unlike others I will respect the situation and not make any snide remarks

Now they've gone and nationalised a shipyard...even more money being wasted by them. How's Prestwick Airport been doing since they took that over?

Don't forget the "investment" in the mothballed BiFab yards. Cost £19M now worth £6M. Wee Nippy would have been better off going down the Govan bookies with Rab C, at least there would be a slim chance of getting some of the cash back. Politicians getting involved in business rarely ends well.

    GER’s published today.
Looks like circa 9% of the U.K. population is responsible for circa 50% of the UK’s deficit. Interesting.

Yes it is. How on earth they resurrected and got Hans Christian Anderson to provide the figures for this year is amazing ! According to the GERS report, Scotland with 8% of the population is responsible for more than half the UK deficit. Add in the Welsh figures and appears Scotland and Wales are seemingly responsible for 111% (?!) of the UK deficit. It doesn't add up.

Westminster puts Welsh deficit at £13.7bn Westminster puts Scottish deficit at £12.6bn. Given that the UK has a total deficit of £23.5bn, a sum smaller than Wales & Scotland together.. Truly jumped the shark with the figures this year. Hilarious stuff. But there's a very simple explanation for it summed up in one graph and all anyone needs to know ( see below). Along with Ian McWhirter's take, a view widely shared by many today once one has stopped laughing long enough.
The GERS data inscrutable as always. Scotland surely doesn’t generate 60% of the UK’s net fiscal deficit with 8% of population. As Richard Murphy points out, it’s ludicrous.

Scotland may well be in a technical deficit. But in terms of national income per head, labour productivity, employment etc. Scotland is pretty much on a par with Rest of U.K.. And public services are not exactly gold-plated here. GERS is a political exercise.

It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?
