Wholly reasonable to emphasise the Union when its the Union at stake surely?
Not quite so reasonable to channel the sort of sentiments surrounding the Irish issue and use it in the Scottish independence debate IMO.
I've personally lost count of comments on twitter I've seen from those espousing Scottish independence and at the same time displaying pro-IRA and Irish Republican sympathies. Most of the protagonists seem to from the West of Scotland it has to be said.
The appeal to the knuckle dragging Orange Order/No Surrender/WATP hardcore is obvious and increasingly encouraged by the Conservative and UNIONIST party in Scotland. There is no equivilent in reverse for the SNP or Yes/Indy to appeal too. Religion/Football is pretty much non-existent when you see marches or events. You're far more likely to see the flag of Catalonia than an Irish one.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Where's the political affiliation for the leave support in Scotland? Must reside somewhere.
Perhaps it's time for Nicola to call a Scottish election on a remain and independence ticket.0 -
Poor old Shakey, still convinced her personal distaste for English Tories will be the catalyst for Scottish independence. The perennial problem is still there, those nasty English Tories are still sending a circa £10 billion bung Scotalnd’s way every year.
Outside of Shakey’s rabid petty nationalists, it must be hard trying to whip up a grievance against what most English taxpayers view as an unwarranted subsidy to keep the Union together.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
Shakey is a Scottish Nationalist, and as a Scottish Nationalist she craves independence from the English the way a dying man in the desert craves a cream soda. Or the way a man being kicked repeatedly in the balls craves not being kicked in the balls.
Therefore her imagination goes overtime. A vulture may drop a cream soda on me. If the ball kickers shoe flies off he may fall over, hit his head and die.
But there will be no soda. And no end to the balls.0 -

I believe that two-thirds of MSPs have to vote for dissolution. The SNP don't even have a majority.0 -

....
The Unionist part refers to the Liberal Unionist Party which merged with the Conservative Party in 1912. It has been the Conservative and Unionist Party ever since.
The Scottish Unionist Party emerged as effectively the Conservative Party in Scotland post 1912, became the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party in 1965, and lost its last vestiges of independence in 1977.0 -

The economic issue is that Scotland is currently enjoying gallons of free soda from its southern neighbour. An independent Scotland will have to pay for its own soda.:)0 -

Ah, but they think they are entitled to the soda, they don't even realise it has to be paid for. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
An independent Scotland under SNP control would become a Stasi like state going by what I have seen on here.
Fortunately the Conservative and UNIONIST Party is doing better up here than south of the border so at least there may be some checks in place.0 -

Hissing in the wind. The union is dying....English nationalism, fuelled by brexit will finish it.0
