The Labour split today has Labour unionists in Scotland practically in tears - all their future hopes rely on Scottish voters not having to face vile Tory governments which England keeps insisting on voting in. With Corbyn there was at least hope for a while of a Labour revival in Scotland. But he messed up well and truly with his Brexit stance.
Honda also a welcome reality check. The SNP will use it to re-enforce the message about Scotland staying in the Single Market/Customs union at all costs. Even if that cost means leaving the UK ( which of course won't exist afterwards anyway ).It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:The Auld Alliance (Scots for "Old Alliance"; French: Vieille Alliance; Scottish Gaelic: An Seann-chaidreachas[1]) was an alliance made in 1295 between the kingdoms of Scotland and France. The alliance was formed for the purpose of controlling England's numerous invasions....
The alliance played a significant role in the relations between Scotland, France and England from its beginning in 1295 to 1560. The alliance was renewed by all the French and Scottish monarchs of that period except Louis XI.[3] By the late 14th century, the renewal occurred regardless of whether either kingdom was in a war with England at the time.[4]NicolaSturgeon 21h21 hours ago
Good to meet French Minister of Europe @NathalieLoiseau in Paris earlier to discuss strengthening and refreshing the #auldalliance for modern times. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

Agree. Ultimately at the end of the day, large global Corporations have no allegience or soul. Their aim is to maximise profit for their shareholders. Buy products from UK owned organisations.
Ever considered who really owns the majority of Scottish whisky distilleries? They're not Scottish either.0 -

15-Feb-2019 By James Ridler
Scotch whisky topped UK exports in 2018, growing 7.8% in value terms to £4.7bn, according to the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA).
And if Brexit looks like stuffing the Scottish Whisky sector, tax will indeed be going straight to Holyrood... because they'll be shouting from the rooftops for independence ( and Single Market/Customs Union access ).
Unlike Honda, Whyte and Mackay ( for example ) and every other distillery in Scotland cannot move jobs and operations abroad. Because once they do the product ceases to be Whisky. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

In the last few months the Scottish Govt has set up Scottish business 'hubs' and offices in Brussels, Paris, Washington, Toronto, Ottawa, Beijing, Dublin ( I think ) and Berlin. Probably a few others I've missed out too. Certainly sounds like a fair bit of...well.... preparation to me.

Must be so.... Scotland only has the second highest level of inward investment in the UK outside London and S.E. England.
Pesky SNP- getting on with the day job
I dare not mention the Aberdeen bypass opening on budget despite Carillion going bust. Why must the pesky Nats place a clause on the contract making the other consortium partners liable if one went bust.
Better to do as they did south of the border and have projects standing still and costing more to finish.... that's the Westminster way of doing things.baldly going on...0 -

Really?
The route was built under a £745 million fixed-price contract, which was agreed in 2014 with Galliford Try, Balfour Beatty and Carillion. However, Galliford Try and Balfour Beatty have said the final cost of the project would top £1 billion, after numerous setbacks including the collapse of Carillion last year and delays caused by bad weather.

To state the obvious but isn't that where most of the hi-tech companies are based in the UK.0
