It would put it to bed for a while if it was a NO again
You have to bear in mind the Westminster democracy:
New EU vote- thought by many at WM as a good idea
New Scottish indy vote- bad idea, yet no unionist who supports a new EU vote can give a valid reason why there should be a EU vote and not another indy vote
Kez Dugdale reasoning here
I don't think that we should have another EU vote.
If we have another vote and Remain win, Leave will want another vote.
Its the same with Indy. If Yes win, then the Unionists will want another vote.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -
The problem with Scottish Independence is that as a movement it is becoming quite wee. I have had a look into this and if you want to win in politics you need to be massive not wee.0

45% is still less than 55% who don't agree with it
The Indy Ref was a "once in a generation" vote which Scots roundly rejected despite SNP using every trick and lie to try and bias the vote (from the rejected biased question to the 16/17 year olds voting because Salmond believed they would all vote leave).
If it's 45% then then EU vote and the awful job May is doing has done precisely zero to generate more support for leaveSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Support for Scottish Indy is evaporating as fast as the Tories can think of new ways to stoke it up again. Before long there'll be a new government and then much of the fuel will evaporate. Don't get me wrong, I am well aware of the fury with which the Scottish Nationalist will defend his claim to a Nationalised Scotland, but he still only has the one vote.0

A frenzy of desperate uninformed nonsense in the two posts above. If you're going to the effort of posting on a thread, at the very least try not to base it on figures from 4 years ago.. or in the case of the post immediately above.. plainly just someone who's a bit bored and can't think of anything better to do.
Scotland out of Single Market = Sturgeon will call a vote. Has been that way since 2016, the day after the Brexit vote. Not long now till there's no road left for Mrs May to kick the can down. Then Nicola Sturgeon and everyone else desperate to get out of this Tory Brexit crap can finally make a move.
There's still a chance Brexit will be revoked, so it's still a waiting game for now.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

And Sturgeon is praying it will be, because quite frankly neither she nor the SNP have got the shiny brass balls to call for another referendum. Firstly, they shan't be allowed one, which will make them look silly, and secondly if they were to get one, they would lose, again.0 -
Firstly, they shan't be allowed one.
There you have it- unionist 'democracy'
Last time I looked we have a parliamentary democracy where parties compete for votes on what is called a 'manifesto'
The SNP - whether you like it or not got a higher share of the vote in Scotland than the tories and got a higher share here than the tories got all over the UK yet you seem to allege that Scots should not be allowed the right to self determination just because the PM (who is propped up by people who are against equal rights for LGBT people) deems the Scots are not worthy
Union of equals my foot- compare and contrast the treatment of Scotland by the UK establishment to that of Ireland by the other EU member states
The UK says it is a partnership of equals but tells Scotland to sit down, shut up and know its place where the EU stated that if Ireland are not happy with the UK deal then the EU would not back the dealbaldly going on...0 -

You're right about the referendum, there's no way May ( or any other UK PM ) will allow that to go ahead while support is sitting at 45% or thereabouts. Far too risky. I've been saying that for the last few years.
Nicola Sturgeon will have to find another way. The SNP aren't stupid, and they'll have been preparing for Westminster saying No to a Section 30 for a veeeeeeery long time now. But they WILL ask for one.. as refusal will bump support for independence up. The last ref campaign the polls started turning almost as soon as Osborne said Scotland couldn't use the £. Teresa saying No will be brilliant !
Yes/Sturgeon/SNP don't give a flying hoot about losing. Not to call one would be far,far more damaging to SNP/independence hopes. It would be like a Lib Dem tution fees moment. The SNP were elected on a premise.. 'Scotland, EU against will blah blah'.. if they sit back and let it happen without doing anything.. bye bye SNP. Which of course would be disasterous for independence.
So, yes, they'll call a vote for the reasons I've outlined about ( and many others, ie devolution undermined etc ).. And probably soon. Best to get this Westminster Brexit vote and the fallout out of the way first though. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

I can only admire your optimism.0
