The Nats assumes that the EU will let them in as if it doesn't already have enough basket case economies.

I'd have thought that the SNP needs to demonstrate an ability to manage the economy well ahead of a referendum. Rather than after. Otherwise you are asking people to take a leap of blind faith.
Unfortunately massive change is coming either way. Either through Brexit or a leap of blind faith to independence. Scotland has the choice of two uncertain futures, there is no status quo anymore.
'Good luck selling that' I've been told here. Well am afraid Brexit isn't selling well either and at least with independence Scots voters at least have a measure of control and a say in the matter. Something which hasn't happened so far regarding any facet of Brexit negotiations. Unionist commentators haven't woken up that there is no safe and secure UK economy now with Brexit imminent.
The Growth Commission report is ultimately selling a 'take back control' message and getting people thinking well beyond the arguments over another referendum and section 30's. This leaves the likes of Davidson and other parties trying to sell Brexit and Rees-Mogg Tories in charge to the Scottish masses during an indyref2 reboot. Good luck selling that !It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Should Scotland decide to join the EU then it can't join the Euro.
To join the Euro a state needs its own currency as Scotland does not have its own currency it cant join the Euro were it to leave the UK and re-join the EU
Only after a period of independence can Scotland join the Euro, so to sum up any chance of Scotland joining any Euro is at least 10 years post indy
It would have to have its own currency and that would have to be established first
Scotland joining the Euro would also have to pass a probable referendum vote.
Hope this clarifies thingsbaldly going on...0 -
So Scotland may not want to join the EU?
Then what is the point of Indy2 - surely it is because we would be "Dragged out of the EU against our will"Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

Although I am personally in favour of staying in the EU by the time Brexit is over we will be already out
At this point it will be time for a referendum and Scots will decide to have Indy or not.
It will be then for a new Scottish Parliament to decide if we are in the EU
On the other hand if Scotland votes for Indy before the UK full leaves (such as during the UK transition period) then Scotland may well stay in the EU
As Brexit goes- the UK government does not know what is happening so how can we.
The First Minister is better leaving things until the Brexit ramifications become clear.
I reckon it will be clear by Autumn this year or Spring next at the latest.baldly going on...0 -
So potentially we could be out of the UK and out of the EU with at least 10 years of austerity?Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

If you failed to notice we have just had about 10 years of austerity inside the UK
The report out on Friday specifically states that there will be no austerity under this plan they put out for discussion, you must be thinking of the scenario we are currently in or the one where we stat in the UK
The point about indy- it will be up to Scots to decide (through the people we elect to the Scottish Parliament- this is very unlikely to be the Conservatives in control
One thing that may be a certainty if we go independent - there will be a non-conservative government in power.baldly going on...0 -
If you want more info the guy who did the report is on Talk Radio with John Nicholsonbaldly going on...0

To be fair there is austerity now but its not just Westminster - The Scottish Government has cut council budgets by 5.3% which is higher than the cut to their own budget.
To be honest there has to be austerity - no more Barnett that money that we wont be getting and divorce costs - just look how much the UK will have to shell out with Brexit!Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0
