But he knows he wouldn't be needed if the Scottish media start doing their jobs properly and with a bit more balance. Anyway, I've debated lots of polls here over the years. I know a bit about them, and know that even if the methodology differs between pollsters, that Survation and Panelbase are just as legit as each other as well as the polls they produce no matter who commissions them.
The SNP are definitely on the move, talk of indyref 2 everywhere. Seems they're also taking the Growth Commission report on tour round the country. http://www.thenational.scot/news/16242956.Sturgeon_says_Growth_Report_is_a__breath_of_fresh_air__ahead_of_summer_of_independence_debate/
Salmond's interview last week looking back at it now was an excellent bellweather. He talked about how Sturgeon will deal with media bias and sure enough, the SNP have gone on the offensive this week. http://www.thenational.scot/news/16240549.BBC_is_failing_in_its_duty_to_Scotland__SNP_tell_watchdog/
Salmond also mentioned he favours EFTA. I reckon that's the proposal the SNP are going to put in front of us within the Growth Commission rather than full EU status.
And... she dodges the point, changes the subject, and replies to a question that wasnt raised once again.
Have you considered politics yourself?0 -
A change in the wind would "pave the way for a second independence referendum", they don't need much of an excuse !0

Good luck with that. Have you ever known the BBC acknowledge that they have ever been at fault with anything?0 -

Hmm, we’ll I suppose you have to be looking for a job, that’s true.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuart_Campbell_(game_journalist)Stuart Campbell is a video game designer, pro-Scottish independence blogger and former video game journalist. Born in Stirling on October 27 1967, he moved to Bath in 1991 to work for computer magazine Amiga Power as a staff writer, where he gained attention for his video game reviews.
Well, he did almost complete 25 whole years in Scotland, almost the first half of his life, maybe that was enough. In 1993, he awarded the game International Rugby Challenge two marks out of a possible hundred, declaring that the Bosnian War was "Not nearly as bad."[6]
Haha, yes very pithy.
Goodness, that does look worse than the Bosnian war.Issues 27 to 36 of Amiga Power have subsequently been cited as belonging to "The Stuart Campbell Era".[7] Campbell remained at the publication until issue 39,[8] which is considered part of "The Jonathan Davies Era" in the chronology of AP.[9]
Ah, the Jonathan Davies Era, the high water mark of Amiga journalism. I guess after 9 issues with the Rev the only way was up!Campbell's writing broadened to the area of travel, exploring and documenting unusual locations in the UK such as the "ghost villages" of Imber, Tyneham and Bangour, and the derelict 19th-century Birnbeck Pier in Weston-super-Mare. A number of these articles appear, among work by other authors, in a 2007 book collection entitled "Weird England".[18]
Well he would certainly be well qualified to write about England. He never leaves the place...Campbell has stated that he owns "close to 40,000" games in total
Yes. Just, yes...He has also developed and released numerous freeware pinball and fruit machine games.]
Who doesn’t love a game of free computer pinball after a day of fighting Somerset's English oppressors?Campbell was a founding member of the campaigning group FairPlay[38], which led a controversial week-long boycott[39] of videogame purchasing in late 2002, in protest at what it regarded as the artificially high prices of games. During the period of the boycott retail chain GAME suffered a sharp drop-off in sales and saw its share price fall by 80%[40][41], though there was no proof that the campaign was directly or solely responsible.
:rotfl:
No need to let that put you off eh, Rev? :rotfl:Campbell launched Wings Over Scotland in November 2011 with the stated aim of providing a "fair and honest perspective on Scottish politics" with a pro-independence slant,[50] after he "got fed up of just shouting at the TV when Newsnight Scotland was on".[51]
Which always left him very hoarse when trying to get through on the phone to Weekend Wiltshire to complain about the price gouging of the Game in Trowbridge. In August 2015, a Kidderminster woman was fined more than £320 after pleading guilty to shoplifting a pack of chocolate bars valued at 75p; in her plea of mitigation, she claimed that after her benefits were sanctioned, hunger had led her to steal.[68] Campbell saw the story online and set out to raise £500 on her behalf.[69] Within the first day £12,000 had been donated.[70][71] In total, the appeal raised over £16,000 and attracted significant media coverage. The woman subsequently asked that the £500 be donated to two women's charities
There are people dying of starvation in Africa. In August 2017, Campbell was arrested, questioned and bailed on suspicion of harassment and malicious communications against an unnamed person.[89] The Metropolitan Police announced at the beginning of November 2017 that after investigation Campbell had been cleared[90] and released without charge. Campbell described the events as "an insane, ridiculous farce"[91].
There's a bit more to that, isn’t there? In May 2018, he spent three days on Twitter arguing David Leask, chief reporter of The Herald, was also chief reporter of the Sunday Herald. Despite being told this was not the case by Leask, and the Sunday Herald, he maintained he was right because of out-of-date information on Herald parent company Newsquest’s website.
Thank the gods he is there to fight this sort of injustice.0 -

I only posted the direct link to the Panelbase poll on his site because I couldn't be bothered trawling through Panelbase or twitter. An action I now regret since we're back to discussing Stu Campbell instead of the topic at hand. The bottom line is that there would be no need for WingsoverScotland if Scottish media were anything like representative of the way people vote in Scotland these days. Politics and voters have moved on massively, but 99% of media outlets in Scotland are stuck in 2007 and still 11 years later... hoping for an imminent Labour return to dominate Holyrood, and for the SNP/indy debate to disappear in a puff of smoke.
Neither of the above are happening anytime soon I'm afraid. Stu Campbell is a success because he points these two very simple facts out over and over again. He also calls out those who try and mislead or manipulate Scottish voters who would otherwise still be stuck reading the one sided Daily Record/watching Reporting Scotland and being convinced that Scottish Labour is doing a totally fabulous job with all their policies. Even thought they, like the Scottish Tories don't appear to have any beyond 'no second indy ref'.
People may not like Wings or Campbell. But they read what he has to say anyway and donate to his site in droves because as much as the man is disliked, his articles and polls offer a perspective that none of the current Scottish media care to represent properly. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -
Scottish Growth Commission report was out yesterday. Mixed views from commentators and economists with the SNP and Andrew Wilson at pains to point out that it's a report intended to spark debate, not a policy document. Hence there will be debates round the country over the next few months on different sections of it. Kevin Hague is trying to discredit it of course but on the whole it seems to have been received quite well.
Can't help thinking that the real intention behind it isn't actually to set out facts and figures, but to normalise folks talking and debating as if Scotland were independent already. When people have spent months going back and forwards over an independent Scotland's immigration policy, or how long to use the pound for ( but no currency union ) once Scotland is independent....
Well May turning round and saying 'no referendum' is going to be a bit of a shocker. Already Davidson and Mundell are pushing out the same tired old lines about 'devisive referendums'. One can't help but feel they've been leapfrogged hugely by the release of this report because Yes or No...everyone, even the unwitting media who will headline all these debates and what is said.. is talking and debating about what happens next in an independent Scotland. Normalisation in action I suppose.
Report here :- https://www.sustainablegrowthcommission.scot/It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

So what does happen next? An independent Scotland using a foreign countries currency. Some independence that is. And then signing up for the EU and a different currency over which they have no control. Some independence, not to mention a hard border with the despised English. And the loss of the Barnett money, English civil service jobs etc.
Good luck selling that.0 -

Oh my god - you are so right . What an absolute pants idea- just as well nobody did that before. If they had we could have learnt lessons...

Australia
New Zealand
Republic of Ireland (from 1929 to 1979 or so)
Republic of Ireland (from 1979 or so until they use the Euro), called it the Punt but 1 Punt = 1 £ GB

Easy to write words. Politicians are renowned for them in fact. Actually putting something into practice is a far greater challenge. I'd have thought that the SNP needs to demonstrate an ability to manage the economy well ahead of a referendum. Rather than after. Otherwise you are asking people to take a leap of blind faith.0 -
