Doom and gloom will no win votes either. As the old saying goes "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".
By the end of next year, the question all Scots residents will be asking is which is going to the bigger hit to their pockets, jobs and the Scottish economy. Brexit, or an independent Scotland still within the Single Market.

This has been THE unanswered question from the day of the EU ref vote.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

The only certainty in life, is uncertainty. Sometimes simply getting on with things today is what shapes the future. I see no sign of the EU27 agreeing between themselves in the near future. Hence why at the very least a two speed Europe is on the cards. Europe like the UK is going to be a very different place in a few years time.

Sturgeon now wishes she could rename the SNP to take the word 'National' out.

    Good grief.

She has a point. The 'Nat' tag always has to be defended as something other than far right politics. Which of course the SNP couldn't be further from in terms of general day to day political agenda.

I and others have had to do it 100's of times here ( differentiate civic nationalism from the usual lumped in nonsense ).

Nicola's Nationalism is so much better than everyone else's, isn't it? As she addresses her colleagues 'fellow nationalists', she's going to have to think of something else.

How about 'fellow whingers'? Other contributors to the thread may have their own ideas.
  • Well, the definition of nationalism certainly seems to fit what the SNP is after

But the SNP shift their left/right bias depending on how the wind blows. Currently following a Hugo Ch!vez model.

    This quote sums it up

Changing the name will change nothing.

She and the SNP are quite free to take the word 'National' out. It's hardly like renaming it the Scottish Independence Party would confuse anyone.

I'm not as convinced as you are that people who have a grievance against English people rather against a union with England are as unwelcome in the SNP as you claim, having been on the receiving end of a few of them. But presumably the SNP doesn't want them anyway.

I guess ordinary decent people who live in Scotland will have to make their own minds up about which nationalism is 'better' than the other.
