The tide has gone out for Nicola Sturgeon and the struggling SNP

    https://reaction.life/tide-gone-nicola-sturgeon-struggling-snp/

Nicola single handidly pushing Scotland in to recession.

    Tick tock........

Problem is for every Martin living in a lovely part of Edinburgh there are half a dozen livin up a !!!! stinking close in a deprived part of Scotland not givin a monkeys about politics and just praying for their life to change for the better.
I could easily write from my big house which is mortgage free but I find myself gettin more left wing as listening to my primary school age kids I realise they have no intention of staying in this Scotland or even the UK as they see no future in it.
Perhaps Martin could get a house swap in Port Glasgow for a year,I would be more interested in his politics then
I have a deep burning indifference

Waiting (and hoping) that Brent Crude will hit USD 110 again?:)

Saudi Arabia is resetting it's budgets. So that in 2020 it can cope with an $40 oil price. Appears that the frackers are for the foreseeable future. OPEC is neutralised.

I guess he's trying to find another platform/soap box to pontificate from now that the electorate has taken away every one of them from him. The electorate won't be able to do anything about this one.

    Yes.

OPEC's attempts to burn off the US frackers appears to have failed. (We might even have some fracking of our own real soon.) A lot of effort is being put into attempts to use less oil; all this renewable energy, electric cars and suchlike.

Given that this is an economics forum, it would be important to note that anyone who takes the time to look at Scotland's fiscal position can see that any hypothetical independent Scotland would need Brent Crude to be $110 to survive.

The last time I looked the fiscal deficit for Scotland was about 9.5% of GDP. That is not sustainable. An independent Scotland would be forced to implement austerity plus.

Harsh medicine, but sometimes medicine is what is required.

Even Shakey admits the future for Scotland is not oil based.

It's how they make the transition, and what replaces oil.

I can't see dyed in the wool socialists like the SNP being the right people at the helm though. Maybe invite one of Trump's relatives over to run things whilst keeping an eye on the golf course?

And yet they still accept money from the rest of the UK while complaining loudly about English oppression.

That's how Scotland funds its deficit.

Trouble is, independence means having to stand on your own two feet.

    Harsh medicine would be inevitable.

What transition? North Sea oil revenues go to the UK Treasury. At present it doesn't matter whether they are £0 or £10 billion, the Scottish fiscal deficit will still be covered by (mainly) English tax payers.

If a hypothetical independent Scotland doesn't have the taxes from the North Sea to fund the deficit, they will have to be replaced by taxes on something else. Or by cutting spending.

    That's the harsh medicine.

The SNP may now be a bit left wing, but they are not "dyed in the wool socialists". The early SNP was just a little bit fascist. But then that was back in the days when fascism was popular in certain quarters. Indeed, I believe it was the case that one Scottish Conservative MP got interned during WWII for being a fascist.

So we shouldn't really hold it against them.

Meanwhile, Mrs Krankie leaves Brussels empty handed after just 45 minutes.

Time to do a bit of shopping.
