    Definitely ok to say no.

For hobs that you can't see are on, do the control knobs not have a little red light each, to show that that hobplate is on?
Mine does, it has a red LED display (like on an alarm clock radio) for each "ring" that states what setting it is on from 1 to 9 and an "H" if it is off but still hot. The controls are all by touch - you press + and - indicators on a flat surface to change the power level, there are no knobs. Makes it easier to clean as I can just wipe over.

It's fine, as long as I remember to press the main "off" button that shuts the whole thing down before I start dishing up! I used to do the same with gas, forget that one of the rings was on low. Probably only once a year on average but enough to be annoying.

It's perfectly fine to say no. In your position, the only reason I'd consider going is to see your other friend.

I'm another one who's rubbish at remembering to turn the hob off. A couple of weeks back I couldn't work out why it was so hot in the kitchen, it was because one of the rings was on a low enough heat that I hadn't seen the flame but it had been happily warming the room for about 2 hours. Hmmm, and I wonder why our energy bills are so high... :D

Everyone has said no so don't feel too bad. I still feel a bit bad, but that's conditioning from my childhood where my mum made me say yes to every invitation.

I've left the gas on a couple of times but mostly I don't because I tend to turn off the heat before I finish cooking. I end up checking multiple times anyway. The few times I have, I've only noticed by the smell of burning. I don't have an induction hob though, although we got really good pans when the in-laws got one :rotfl:

You don't want to go, and from the sounds of it the person who invited you isn't that fussed either way*, so definitely nothing to feel guilty about.

*to be clear, that's in no way a reflection on you at all. Just that they sound like a twonk.

As everyone inc. you has said that they couldn't do today, it is perfectly fine to say no.

Maybe that's why she suggested today, knowing that people couldn't go anyway?

Don't go on another day either, unless you really want to.

You're right tea. I'd rather have no friends than be the last resort.

I've said no to both date suggestions. Just said she'd left it too late. I don't think she expected us all to say no. I think she expected us all to drop everything to see her.

  • You've already said no, but add me to the list that thinks you did the right thing. No need to waste time on someone that treats you like that.

Also, tea just made me laugh in the office when I read "twonk" :rotfl:. Haven't heard, or used, that in years. I tend to use "numpty" :D

My parents got a very nice set of pans from me when I got my induction hob as well!
