Rated People is a website which tradespeople have paid to become members.

Ordinary members of the public (like me), join Rated People for free and state the job that needs doing eg. new bathroom needs fitting in 2nd floor flat, no lift, awkward room shape, give an indication of the prices they're prepared to pay and a postcode to give an idea where the job is.

This 'logged job' is then displayed to the tradespeople (sole traders or companies) and interested traders 'bid' for the job.

Rated People then gives updates to the members of the public about job progress and warns us when traders are going to contact us to discuss the job further.

So two guys showed up from two different companies to assess the work needed and now I'm waiting for quotes.

Pyxis - I'm having a very similar scenario with brownies at the moment. The details are different but am definitely thinking "do I want to do this" right now, then thinking I do, but would appreciate completely different people to do it with :rotfl:.

Am starting to think maybe I just like the idea of it more than the reality, but then there are lovely moments with the girls, then less lovely moments with scary other leader..... then I decide I can't decide anything and put off deciding for another week :rotfl:.

Gingernutty - have you tried the reusable hand warmers? I swear by mine. You can get them for a couple of quid usually, and they can be reused as many times as you like. Just pop them in a pan of boiling water for a couple of minutes to reset them. Which reminds me, I'm going to a tree light switch on and carols thing straight after work today and have annoyingly forgotten to pack mine!

Is it too early for Christmas music?

Not at all, we've had the Christmas music channels on for a couple of weeks now.

It's too bloody late for advent calendars. :( just been on a hunt and unless I want a £10 one they've sold out.

That's annoying. I'll keep an eye out and grab you one if I see any. Was there a particular kind you want?

I need to try to get some tonight which have the little pouches which you fill up yourself so I'm really hoping The Range still have them.
I was very organised and have had the chocolates in them for about two weeks, unfortunately the mice I thought we'd got rid of are obviously still in the flat and had managed to get into the bag and chew through two of the pouches...

Anybody got any ideas for getting rid of mice? As much as I don't want to hurt them I can't have vermin (other than IzHe :D) living in our flat.

Pyxis, are there any other am dram groups near you? I know starting over with a new group of people isn't ideal but it would mean you still get the fun parts without the people in the current group who aren't good to be around.

I've got reusable ones, but what impressed me about these disposable ones was how long they lasted.

Hours, not a few minutes. Very impressive.

That is good. My reusable ones usually stay proper toasty for about 30 mins, then reasonably warm up to about 45. Hours would be lovely!

When I had wood mice coming into the house, I bought a live trapper thing, and when I caught one, took it down to a wooded area where there were some wood plles it could get under, and released it.

They recommend you take them several hundreds yards away, otherwise they 'home'! :rotfl:

Re. The AmDram group, well I had wondered. Trouble is, there are different types of Am.dram and this one suits me, plus I have a couple of roles which I quite like even if they are a touch stressful at times. I wouldn't necessarily have those roles in another group, and would have to start from the bottom again.

Plus there's a strong possibility that it'd be out of the frying pan into the fire in another group. You probably get the same mix of people everywhere.
Plus part of the problem is undoubtedly my level of sensitivity about things, and how I get hurt easily/how my confidence gets knocked easily etc. etc.

A couple of the really awful people left a while back, which I was very grateful for!

Things might start to slowly change from now on, though, due to a couple of changes in people at the top, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have my fingers crossed for you too Pyxis. What sort of productions do you put on (if you don't mind saying, feel free to say you'd rather not give that info of course!)

Am definitely coming to the conclusion that a lot of the time it is me, rather than other people :rotfl:. I moved units at the start of this term for various reasons but it hasn't been the amazing improvement I was hoping for. Maybe I'm at the point where I have to accept that other people are not for me!
  • Hmm...today's conundrums.

Is a Roomba-type thingy an acceptable present for my Mum for Christmas? If so...where do I get one on a £50 budget??

It's mostly musicals stuff, or extracts therefrom, so there's singing involved as well.
    It's all quite low-key stuff.

    Yes, other people!
I'll put you down for one of the islands in my archipelago, shall I? The one wot I will buy when I win the Euromillions super-jackpot! :rotfl:

I've often wondered how efficient they really are. I mean, do they get into all the corners? Can they deal with stubborn bits of fluff?

Also, do they do underneath furniture?
I would think that if a room is quite crowded with bits and bobs, it wouldn't work very well.

    Has anyone got one?
