  • Wishing everyone a better day today than yesterday :) . Was -6C when I came out this morning, -4C when I got to work. Imagine it's warmed up a bit since as it's another beautiful clear day.

Same old same old for me at work today, which is fine, though I think it was sometime in October the last time I did any actual development, rather than support and fire fighting problems. One of the joys of a very small company, the developers are also the customer support team and the IT department :rotfl: So if you ring up for technical support, there's a very good chance the person you speak to will have actually written the software you are trying to use (this is both a good and bad thing from a customer perspective, because no-one knows it better than the person that wrote it, but things that are obvious to me are not obvious to them, so I think "why are you asking that? It's obvious!").

  • Hi MU and Georgie, we miss you!

    Lovely to see you, HBS!

I have delivery driver problems. My new phone has failed to be delivered for 2 days now because the driver is going to the wrong street! I just half screamed and half had a panic attack at customer service because I hate using phones for calls and am useless on them. I seem to have sounded so distressed that he is coming back. Crossing everything.

  • Oh WaS! What a silly person that driver is. Hope it gets sorted FAST!

I've got two more things ordered, so God knows what fun and games we'll get this time!

I was so pleased with DPD after my first experience with them, that I posted a thread on Praise Vents and Warnings saying how pleased I was, but it's gone pear-shaped twice in the last month! :(

I know it's a busy time of year, and that the drivers have punishing schedules for low pay, but it seems to me that overloading the drivers so much that there's no time for discretionary behaviour is counter-productive, as they then get more complaints about botched deliveries and need staff to deal with the complaints!

Anyway, the customer services people who responded to my complaints have replied with such overwhelming regret and expressions of apology, that I now think that means they'll do bu##er-all about my complaint, except 'bin' it!
Especially as they called me by the wrong name, making it obvious they don't actually read the emails properly! :rotfl:

I got a much better response when I complained about the delivery service to the people I was buying the things from.

Oh dear, they're the people who are meant to be delivering the present I've got for IzHe's mum. At least there's time to get things sorted out if it goes wrong.

I've got so much ordered at the moment that I've had to resort to a spreadsheet to keep track of what has and hasn't been delivered!!

WaS, I hope your phone arrives soon.

Well, just remember that my very first experience with them was very good indeed!

What I do do now, though, and what I recommend everyone does, is when I know what day a parcel is coming, I put a note on the door saying that 'I AM in, please wait for me to come to the door, or knock harder!) etc., so there can be no mistake!
Then if they photograph the door to prove they've been, they'll be photographing your note as well! Hahahahahahaha!

I didn't realise they photographed the door to prove they'd been there. Seeing as I get most stuff delivered to work there's generally someone here to take parcels. Annoyingly the guys on the desk at the main entrance, which is covered 24/7, aren't allowed to sign for stuff. There are 4 different companies in the building and they have to send delivery people to the appropriate floor.
