    body fat penguin

I stood on the scales at Boots yesterday. Although I haven't lost weight, my body fat % has gone from 61% to 41% in the last few months. It is still way too high of course (25% is considered excellent for my circumstances) but it still is motivating me.

I must confess I don't know too much about it really - body fat % - so if anyone has any comments on muscle/fat that would help me understand.

I am trying to sort out my financial paperwork, which is in a mess.

It's grandma's birthday soon so I have ordered some craft stuff so that littlewing can make her some presents. We will enjoy doing it, although I expect it will be a rush to finish it near the date. Still, it is helping me feel calm.

PENGUIN reply to Whitewing (body fat)

What do you need to know?

Muscle is denser than fat, so if you're reducing fat but gaining muscle mass then that would explain why your weight hasn't dropped. This is why the BMI is a bit misleading, as people with large muscle mass end up with very high BMIs.

The "healthy range" for body fat increases as you get older. The most important part about body fat with regards health is where it's being stored. In the bum or the boobs isn't too unhealthy, but when it's stored in the waist that's when it's more detrimental to your health.

When I was more physically active, I was at the lower end of body fat % but weighed quite a bit more than the average woman because the muscle mass in my thighs, arms and chest was bigger. And as I've mentioned before, I'm also several inches taller than average height.

So yes, be motivated! Weight isn't everything! It's the distribution of that weight that's important and what comprises that weight. If you're reducing your body fat % you're doing well (just remember, a low body fat % is also a health problem so don't go aiming much lower than your 25%).

    END PENGUIN

    Congratulations on your achievement!

I have dived between showers and finished my back yard pots. Feel like I've done something useful now. :)

Thank you. Took me ages to summon up the energy but it always cheers me up once it's done. The back garden is rather more neglected at the moment - that's next.

He's alright as long as he can look through it although I did have to have a taller one made.
You might notice the mesh on the fence following the "bull terrier biting though fence to say hi to neighbours" incident by his predecessor.

    Everyone ok this afternoon?

I am cheery right now. I found a perfect present for my training partner in the qwerkity sale so that is ordered.

I also saw on MSE`that today is the last chance to boost clubcard vouchers. So I have ordered £77 worth of presents to put away and paid just £1.49 on my debt card. In honour of our calley, this includes lego prison island, which I will keep for our wedding anniversary.

Thank you for your reply, lambyr, which was helpful. I wonder if I will ever actually lose weight, or i will be the most muscular short-!!!! in Britain.
