((((Code)))) so sorry to hear you're having a bad day and are struggling. Its a horrible feeling when you feel like that. :(

Takeaway choice, I'd vote American Diner everytime! I love the hotdogs they do and you can probably get pizza from them too if that's what you really fancy. I don't like milkshakes very much in general, but from the diners, I love them!

Firstly, would your girlfriend love you as much if you were the sort of person to let your mum moulder away in a home/nursing home? It's probably part of what makes you such a lovely person in her eyes!
That's what you bring to the relationship!
It doesn't have to be a high-powered job, or a large salary, or material trappings. A kind and loving heart is worth so much more!

Secondly, have you thought about about writing a blog about the joys and pitfalls of being the carer?
Maybe along the lines of Elsien's Gitdog tales?
Could you find humour in it as well as pathos and convey those to the reader?
It might even turn into a book later.
    Just a thought.
They do say the best writers draw on their own experiences.

Yeah, I know :) I always consider caring to just be the right thing to do, so it's hard to see it as something that might show an attractive trait. But yeah, if I looked at it as an outsider, I know I would look fondly on someone doing what I do... but I can't help but feel a tad arrogant for saying that! :rotfl:

I have thought of doing a blog, as it happens. I actually own a couple of domain names, so I could easily use one of them and set one up... but then I've always thought my life is kinda dull at times. I am also a bit of a potty mouth so it'd probably get a bit vulgar at times.

Silly question, I've lurked around here for a couple of years mostly to pick up advice on living on a low budget (and the occasional chuckle at some of the more bonkers threads on some of these boards!), but I'm not too familiar with Gitdog. Is there a thread or site I can go look at to acquaint myself? Cos, tbh, the last couple of days pottering around on here has actually been kinda nice for me so I might stick around and so I should probably get myself properly acquainted with everything! :)

The script I wrote is kinda based on my experiences, or rather my fears... the main character is a sorta alternate reality version of myself going through a hypothetical situation that frightens me in real-life.

Well done on getting to the short list Lambyr! That's a great achievement in it's self. Your Mum and your GF will be very proud of you indeed! :)

Nothing as posh as proper writing, just a bit of fun once in a while when
I chuck the occasional Gitdog's guide in the pet forum.
This is one of my favourites.

Or, Lambyr, as the Gitdog chronicles are dispersed all over, you could do an elsien posts search, and have a lovely giggle reading all about the hapless Gitdog and his determined attempts to avoid being Dog of the Year! :rotfl:

:rotfl:Brilliant! My dog would try some of that stuff too if I let her. Currently, she's savaging a cardboard box. I ran out of energy to stop her.

Some more information for you Lambyr. Here are my abbreviations:

DA dog: dumbass dog aka the large dog who thinks he's tiny and tries to be a lapdog. He is very snuggly though.

Mr CP: Mr. Codigo Pombo. My husband. Used to be known as Mr Codemonkey but was renamed after he punched me in his sleep because he dreamt I was a pigeon noising him up (codigo pombo is Portuguese for Code Pigeon).

Also know that should you go on holiday, you're now contractually (ok, not really) obliged to try to say the following phrase in the local language 'I am not a turtle'.
Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.

Super! I'm feeling all clued up on the lingo.

I never get to go on holiday these days, but I'll be sure to learn the phrase whenever I next get chance, and say it to the first person I see on arrival which will probably be a passport officer.
