    Hiya LG. :)

As Sue stated face masks don't really help much so I wouldn't worry about those. Also as Sue says ordinary soap and water works just as well as hand sanitiser, we were told that by WaSp's consultant who's patients are all immune suppressed. He said there was no need to look for expensive products, a thorough wash of the hands with ordinary soap will do the job.

Also, to give you a little positive information remember that it isn't airborne. You can get it if someone sneezes or coughs in your face obviously but otherwise if you avoid touching your face with your hands it should help a lot. I hope next week isn't too stressful for you with the travelling, do check in with us here any time you want to, we will always listen.
Hi thanks. They haven't confirmed it to be airborne yet but apparently traces of the virus have been found in a hospital ventilation system.

BUT the kind of masks you can buy (as opposed to the kind the hospital may be issuing to staff involved in treating patients) aren't actually effective - against anything really!

I'm a bit ambivalent about it all: I'm really glad DS1 isn't going to San Francisco this week, but I'm still planning to fly to a not-terribly-infected-yet part of Europe next week ...

I have a holiday booked to Italy next month.  I'm really hoping the operator doesn't cancel it. I didn't get away at all last year with all the problems with MS and my MH.  I saw the MS specialist last week and he told me that 99% of people with it suffer with some degree of fatigue, which they can do nothing about so I just have to self-manage. In my case it seems pretty bad as it pretty much stops me doing anything after work in the week then I spend all weekend just recovering enough to start back at work again, so I could really do with a holiday.

He also said the only treatment for MS to reduce the chance of relapses is immuno-suppresants, so I told him no thank you, they seem like more trouble than they're worth for this.

Sorry to hear that Ono. It sounds like you definitely need a holiday so is there anywhere else you could go next month that would be good for relaxation? I know that you would've been looking forward to Italy so hopefully things calm down soon and you get to go.
  • I'm sorry ono, can you change the booking to anywhere else so you still get a break? How is your health holding up these days?
Hope you are finding some moments of peace, LG

I'm not a lawyer so can't give legal advcie.  However, my understanding is that 14 day isolation is for households where there is more than one person and is from the day that one person displays symptoms.  If that one person is OK after 7 days they don't have to isolate any more but everyone else has to for the full 14.  Households of one person (e.g. mine) only need to isolate for 7 days after symptoms, provided they clear up.  It's not as simple as "government advice is self isolate for 14 days".

Your employer should be more understanding of the realities of the situation, however there is information to help you here:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19/covid-19-guidance-for-employees

See the links in the section titled "My employer wants me to come to work. How do I respond when I don’t have a sick note?", I haven't followed all the way but they look like they can provide some sort of note for isolation based on your answers.
