Take a deep breathe little_green. I know these things are worrying, can you try to turn it into something proactive? It might help a little? There is nothing wrong with you buying a few tins a week if it helps calm you. I have learnt with my OCD that sometimes I can do harmless, safe things to help me feel in control. If you want to make a little stockpile do it, I always have 2 weeks worth of food stocked up because of my OCD, I don't even need a reason to worry! Just having it there makes me feel better in case of some unknown catastrophe but I am strict with myself and will not allow myself to keep more than 2 weeks worth of food under any circumstances because I also have a hoarding OCD and I can't let that get out of hand.

You can always come here and talk to us if you are worried. x

Little_green, although there is really a very low risk the way that they're reporting on Corona Virus can't be helping you.
Sorry you're feeling crappy but please try not to blame yourself and I hope things start improving soon.
  • Try not to blame yourself for how you feel, LG. We all have periods when we feel very low and it is rarely our faults. I know my OCD goes through the roof when I am anxious or depressed because I am desperately trying to feel as if I am in control of something, anything. Even if that is just doing things in symmetry or counting everything it is a desperate attempt to feel that I can control some aspect of my life. Hang in there, I really hope things feel better for you soon. Please keep posting as much as you need, we are all here for you, you aren't alone.

a coronavirus case has been confirmed in my "region" ... not sure exactly where as the region includes city & shire but expect more cases to follow & probably some even diagnosed.
They say they cant give more details due to patient confidentiality but i don't think stating which university/school/work place is going to specifically identify an individual to the general public. Yet they wonder how it's spreading well bc people don't know what areas to avoid.

OH is due back from abroad (an uninfected area) in the next few days however will be flying though Heathrow it's very possible they wil come into contact with someone with or carrying the virus. If you ask me they should be quarantined regardless but unfortunately they're going to be free to leave the airport with no check & come & sleep next to me .... just great.
  • It does seem ridiculous LG that they are only releasing where the patients are once a week now. We all need to be careful and wash our hands whenever we come back from being outside. The experts seem to feel confident that good hygiene will help a lot so that is something pro-active that we all can do. Make sure your husband has a nice shower when he gets in, if he is coming back from an uninfected area he will hopefully be fine.

I do understand your worries because my partner WaSp has lung damage and a suppressed immune system so he can't even afford to get general Flu. We are both washing our hands a lot and using wipes in the car and hoping for the best which is all anyone can do really. I am sorry it is worrying you so much but I do totally understand your concerns.

I am not sure this will help you, but I will say it anyway. There is little evidence that the face masks are effective, and the sanitizer is also not nearly as effective as proper hand-washing with soap.

I understand why you want to do as much as you can to protect yourself, and that may include doing things which won't actually help but just make you feel better. But making you feel better is the role which sanitizer and masks would play.

    Hiya LG. :)

As Sue stated face masks don't really help much so I wouldn't worry about those. Also as Sue says ordinary soap and water works just as well as hand sanitiser, we were told that by WaSp's consultant who's patients are all immune suppressed. He said there was no need to look for expensive products, a thorough wash of the hands with ordinary soap will do the job.

Also, to give you a little positive information remember that it isn't airborne. You can get it if someone sneezes or coughs in your face obviously but otherwise if you avoid touching your face with your hands it should help a lot. I hope next week isn't too stressful for you with the travelling, do check in with us here any time you want to, we will always listen.
