You misunderstand, the 3 updates just hide the nagging but different updates add the spying faciliaties so whilst they don't nag you they monitor what you use.

And people aren't doubting Windows 10 is faster as much as it still has flaws as its early days, plus it has malware in it and things dont work.

Its like Windows 8 I did a HND in programming and even the lecturers said not to use 8 as actual programming software MADE BY MICROSOFT wasn't compatable, eventually like 2 years after it came out a compatable version arrived.

And even now theres conflicts with some games and programs.

The point I was making about the updates is that by hiding them it doesn't download Windows 10 and it doesn't prompt you to install it. So this solves the problem that most people are having.
Nobody has mentioned anything about spying features being added to windows 7. Do you have any proof of this?

Its on a huge amount of websites online, their "updates" do things like log data and transmit it to MS, it may seem like non important data but its very intrusive logging things like log on attempts which is the same behaviour spyware such as keyloggers use!

One of the links but outdated as loads more updates since then

  • Well I just refuse to accept the known telemetry KB updates on my win 7 every month.
and the next month MS re-list them back as essential updates
and every month I just keep on declining them again.

MS even admits it is adding in telemetry/spyware to win 7 and win 8 !
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3075249

I'm told that if you hide them that has no effect as MS simply issues them again with a new version number that effectively becomes a new update with the same KB number.

Part of my suspicion as to what they are up to (or possibly have been told to do by the FBI/NSA) is that when I wrote in-house engineering programs when fully employed in UK - on every occasion I added in backdoors for myself and telemetry style reporting on program usage - all totally undeclared.

I am a Linux Mint user usually but frequently help friends and relatives with their Windows machines.
If you do have to use a windows system then Windows 7 is not bad, Windows 8/ 8.1 was horrendous and difficult to use. Windows 10 is OK and feels like an improved version of Windows 7 although the frequent updates are annoying. My message then to the OP would be keep Windows 10.

If you like 10 that's fine, but what annoys me is the fact that Microsoft is actually forcing it onto computers, using Windows 7 as a springboard. For those who don't want it and have that "Get Windows 10" icon in their Taskbar, there is GWX Control Panel: -
    ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

That will remove all Win 10 updates and downloads from your PC, getting rid of the "Get Win 10" icon in the process. Before downloading, scroll through the information and set up GWX as it shows.

I don't want anyone telling me how good it is: I don't want it! If others do, that's fine, no argument from me. I love Windows 7 and it works for me. I just object to the direction Microsoft is taking by cramming it down my throat, installing Win 10 "updates" that hide inside other updates.
you took the words right out of my mouth ...

Just so everyone knows there is no need to install third party software to stop any mention of windows 10 on your computer. You simply have to hide three particular updates and it will never download anything to do with it. I did this on a computer that I have that is always on but it does what it needs to do without any user input, so no point in updating it.

But for everyday computers I see no reason not to update to it, as long as all the required drivers are available. But generally people are resistant to change so that's why Microsoft are forcing it on people!. The reason they want all computers to run it is because it's easier for them to just update one operating system. They have mentioned that this will be the last windows and all updates from now on will just be windows 10 updates. So this means all computers will run the latest version, so that's probably why they are being so "pushy" because for this "vision" to become reality all computers will need to run it!.
So, we have 20+ PCs at work. And a number of users who just don't like or cope well with unexpected change. So one or other of these users wanders away from their desk, and comes back to find Windows 10 has randomly downloaded and started installing on their computer. Who ya gonna call? Not the ghostbusters, although I think they may have a role to play. No, they call me.

I have now got over my apoplexy at the message which says "all your files are just where you left them" - well I should hope so! I have now worked out how to get rid of the damned thing.

I'm still working on getting rid of the 'nagging' - which is a polite way of describing it - and am grateful for the tips in this thread!

At my workplace to make sure all software we use is compatible all updates are strickly controlled on networked computers. On non networked computers no updates are ever performed. They have to go through each and every windows update and decide which ones to install and which to ignore. The allowed ones are then automatically installed on all computers.

If your in charge of 20+ computers which every user is allowed full access to update or change as they like then you must have a lot to keep you busy!!
