Which is the scenario that the lord God invented Virtualisation for. I have an XP-only label printer. I can assure that I don't have any machines running XP as their host operating system: I just have a virtualised instance of XP sat on a Mac running 10.11.4.0 -
Some of the 'anti' posts are bordering on the ridiculous these days.
I feel some are mixing their indignation about apparent forced downloads (quite rightly, although I've seen no evidence of this) and the actual operation of W10.
I guess the two camps will never see eye to eye, perhaps time for a couple of threads - one each....:)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Having used Windows 10 for a month now I cannot understand why there is so much opposition to it. I have come to rather like it, and with the use of Classic Shell not that much different to what W7 was. I do feel that much of the anti-W10 paranoia is way OTT.
My opposition isn't to Windows 10, it's the way they're trying to force people to upgrade - my machines that are on Windows 7 are because they can't run anything newer and the others are on Windows 8.1 which has most of the benefits of Windows 10 (which is largely just a branding exercise) as well as being better than Win10 in some areas. Yet despite that there is no official way to stop the Microsoft nag screens to upgrade to Windows 10 which is what most of the protesting is against, the only way to stop it completely is to install a third party tool to block it which is not acceptable - that's the behaviour of particularly nasty malware.

i put win10 on an old samsung nc10 which was running xp. everything working fine"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
Could you be more specific please. In what ways is it 'night and day' above Windows 7?dipsomaniac wrote: »it will probably be supported for 5 years longer than win7
Oh no! Windows 7 is only supported until 2020! What ever are we to do?! :rotfl:Please give it a chance before going back.
How heart-rending... but... Why?! And what difference does it make to you?!
Windows 10 isn't a lost puppy that we're all trying to drown! :rotfl:

Gasp! You're still using XP?! Why cling to obsolete technology?! Everyone on this thread knows that the only way you can truly worship Microsoft is to throw your equipment away and buy a proper Windows 10 label printer.
Why live in the past? Why fail to give yourself to Microsoft?0 -

I suspect that switching off various buttons on win10 will do very little.
I suspect MS, either of their own volition, or under the "encouragement" of the FBI/NSA will be quietly slurping data even from those who have in all innocence switched all of it supposedly off.
The only way to really stop it would be to find and block the IP addresses MS is using from within your routers firewall. But if MS is anything like clever it will be changing these on a regularly basis with the monthly compulsory updates to outwit any such blocking attempts.
Those who should be really concerned are not the paranoid home user but business particularly those working in sensitive areas and those with dealings in the USA: Also those in sectors where privacy and data security are paramount such as banking and the health service.
Think I am nuts? Well 30 years ago I was using/generating encrypted faxes with one time pads when overseas to comunicate back home to base with. You see, we did not trust the hotel fax bureau sending them for us not be copying any faxes on the side and passing them on to those we were discussing contracts with locally. Having all our faxes encrypted negated that possibility totally.0 -

That doesn't mean every device is compatible with Windows 10 (the nc10 is a pretty simple machine) - I have a vaios that use a proprietary graphics card switching system which isn't supported past windows 7, the machine didn't work at all under Windows 8 or newer. Despite that, it stills gets the windows 10 nagware at least until I installed software to block it. At the very least the software should be doing a compatibility check before prompting people to upgrade to Windows 10 as others won't be aware their machine is incompatible until they run the ill fated upgrade.0 -
