Because he didnt make a mistake, the previous occupants of the house did by not informing him they had moved.

Your example makes little sense. Clearly you would'nt pay him for cleaning someone elses windows as you would receive no benefit for that.

I can't understand why you're getting so het up by this. My opinion is that he should have been given some kind of recompense, others disagree. C'est la vie.

Example dosent work. Do you get weekly house painters that come around weekly to paint the front of your house? We're talking about a window cleaner here.

No, it's not c'est la vie. You started this judgementally. You didn't say "I disagree", you said "That's a bit mean" You need to back up that moral judgement.

For the third time, I would receive no benefit from getting my windows cleaned. I don't value having my windows cleaned. To get a benefit from something you have to place a value on it.

Example does work. It's a general principle, not solely confined to window cleaners. Someone could have been paid to paint next door and get the wrong house. Whether it's weekly or not is immaterial.

There is not a separate moral compass for window cleaning activities.

I've explained the reason for why I said "that's a bit mean. The fact you don't seem to grasp/understand it is not my problem.

You should have said sooner that you get no benefit from having your windows cleaned. You kept that quiet. As i've said a few times now, if you don't want to pay, then don't. You have no legal obligation, however my opinion is that I would have offered him something.

It's a perfectly valid example; we are talking about unsolicited services being performed, not just about window cleaners.

If you had a forwarding address for the previous owners, you could have forwarded the window cleaners bill on to them, as they should have cancelled his services.


I wouldn't pay for work I didn't want either - although If I window cleaner did actually clean my windows by accident, I probably would pay them, as I would love a window cleaner, but haven't got round to finding one!

No you haven't explained. You've just said you think it is. You don't seem to get that you have to introduce reasons for your opinion. Just saying "I'm entitled to my opinion but I don't know why I have it" doesn't cut it unless you are on the Jeremy Vine show.

That you would have offered him something is NOT your opinion. That's a fact. You control your actions.

Your opinion was that it is mean NOT to offer him something.
