  • Just want to drop by and say hello.. I was really glad to come across a post like this as completely echo my situation at the moment and really gives me hope that it will get better! My partner and I also run a business from which we are stuck with till the end of the year and not making money from, and ended up borrowing from family etc to get by I have just had enough! Your post has given me the boast I needed to see a way out with bit of hard work! I have interviews lined up so fingers crossed as we seriously need some income through the door! Been self employed for a while though so alittle nervous getting a paid job again, how did you find it? Keep up the good work, your doing great!

This is not a dig, but I was wondering if you could have got better bargains trawling the charity shops? Last time I was home I got some beautiful designer stuff that retailed for loads that I got for a couple of pounds. I like shopping in charity shops more than I do regular stores, but then maybe I am just a cheap skate:rotfl:

Hello Amazing! Just popping in to say you seem to be doing really well and grasping the bull by the proverbials!! Your attitude is really positive and the home cooked meals sound fantastic. I am also cooking everything from scratch after a few years of cheating and spending way too much on getting overweight! Three and a half stone for me and I've just rejoined wwtachurrs.

I've read your thread from start to finish and wonder whether you've got into the routine of paying off debts as soon as you get paid. I have started to overpay my debts at the start of the month and am determined to live within my means for the rest of the month. I have to admit that I'm on my first month of this new discipline and it has been a struggle.

I have one DD at home now (my DS has been gone four years having left at 18) and really admire the way you are coping with work, supporting your husband and being a great mum. Your food budget looks really good for so many of you!

One piece of reassurance I hope I can give you is about school trips. I'm a teacher and have a tutor group as well. I've organised loads of school trips and there are always four to five children on any trip who have special arrangements for payment or are going free. It's far more common than people realise and schools are totally discreet. You can arrange for small staged payments or partial payments.

I've also had times when I've had to refuse my children trips that were just going to be too much. Too be honest it does them no harm to know that sometimes things are just not possible and my DD especially has a keen appreciation of the value of money.

Good luck with all your moneysaving!!! Look forward to your next post with details of how much more you've paid off!!!
With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

Dotty if you want any recipes I am happy to oblige - I used to run a cafe and have been cooking from scratch since I was a child. I love tweaking recipes to make them cheaper/healthier.

Today's big money saving news - I cycled to work! My bum feels like someone's been hitting it with a meat tenderiser :rotfl: but that should get better over the next few days. So proud of myself, particularly because it was absolutely teeming with rain when I left.

Thanks so much! I may well be taking you up on that offer!

Also, well done on the bike ride! I don't think I could cope with the hills round here to do it myself :o
  • Cycling going well - can't do Wednesdays as don't have time but have done the rest. Hills getting easier and bum feeling a bit less sore. DD still moaning but she is enjoying it really.

Yes, I could have maybe got the jeans and shirts cheaper in a charity shop but I don't have the time to do it. Only one charity shop within a mile of us and it's not got many clothes so would have to go further afield. I do check through the local ones when I'm at my parents' house though.

Tuna and egg pie is just a pastry base then sliced up hard boiled eggs in a layer. Make a white sauce and add a tin of tuna to it. Pour over, put a pastry lid on and cook until golden. Leave to cool a little before serving.

Thank you for the school trip reassurance. Both boys are swimming with school this term and I sent back the forms with no money - I just wrote tbc next to the amount. Just bad luck that they are in the two year groups that go at the same time.

Devonsaver - the sheer relief of having a regular wage cannot be beaten!:D
