    Good points.

I remember passing my test in 86. First thing I did was go out for several hours by myself and put myself into 'tricky' situations so that I could try and watch other road users practices and learn from them. I class myself as a poor driver as I feel we all need to learn on a daily basis. Anyone who says 'the roads are full of idiots' needs to have a look at themselves first. I've done advanced driving courses several times and we all need to keep refreshing.

And you still class yourself as a 'poor driver'?

Show me someone that says they are a good driver and I will show you a liar.

How can you possibly say that when by your own admission, you are a poor driver who can't park "for toffee"?

Because..... It is my belief and that's good enough for me.

So my 30 odd year old sister managed to passer test in an automatic on the sixth attempt . But she cant park or reverse at all. Its not funny, she has no ability to judge how far to turn the wheel or what direction and was almost hitting cars trying to reverse out of space you manoeuvre a bus in.

There's no way someone like that should be allowed on the road, she's almost certain to have an accident
I can't believe that is possible she must have reversed during her test, unless she was very very lucky.

When I sat my tests reversing round a corner and a parallel parking manoeuvre where part of the test. If you couldn't do one during the test you failed.

I remember back in the early eighties, when I was a learner and my girlfriend at the time had passed her test (and never forgot to constantly remind me of that fact), we went out for the night, and when we arrived at the venue the car park was rather packed and the spaces were very cramped.

Guess who ended up parking the car.:)

Thank God for parking sensors - I have them front and rear.

But they do have limitations -

They often cant detect a small narrow thing near to the car than a large object farther away. for example the tow hitch of a caravan is ignored when the sensors detect the greater bulk of the caravan farther away.

They will perhaps not be able to correctly judge the closeness to a bollard in a car park bay - Tesco is bad for this with those black plastic coated ones that can make a right mess of a front bumper.

When parking in a bay that has a high kerb it's only too easy to scrape the underside of a front spoiler.

Knowing the price of bumper/spoiler repairs I am now so wary of all the above I tend to leave too much of a space.
