So I can't park well. It's not the end of the world (as you are clearly making it out to be).

As for practice, I normally attempt it 4 times a day thanks. I'm still rubbish.

Luckily for me :Tyou are perfect.

You probably inconvenience a lot of people every day.

Tomorrow, find an empty car park and practice. For hours if necessary. 4 times a day clearly isn't working for you.

How do you know they are a "she", or are you just basing that on the fact they can't park? ;)

There's loads of drivers I see everyday who can't park or reverse properly to save their lives. I often wonder how (or if) they get their licences.

Parallel parking used not to be part of the driving test.

I can reverse bay park perfectly, going in front however I always end up wonky, then when I reverse out I don't turn until the last minute as I'm convinced I'm going to hit the car next to me with the bonnet. I'm th same with parallel parking, but the other way around, I can reverse and then pull out, but can't parallel park unless I go in forwards as I'm worried when I straighten in my bonnet will hit the car in front.

My depth perception is absolutely awful so I'm not surprised.

I booked some lessons once and the instructor placed several mirrors in the car designed for people with poor depth perception, it didn't make any difference after sixteen lessons!

A while ago I had a hire car while mine was in the garage, it was a ford mondeo that had been front bay parked and the cars each size were very close, it was also up hill. It must have taken me a good twenty minutes to get out while the mechanic was laughing his head off.

Saying that when I was a mechanic I was the only one who could reverse on the bay bars.

Hey, when an MSE Motoring member senses an opportunity to get angry and patronising about something, they're not going to pass it up just because you use words like "sorry" in your post! There is a world to be put to rights here, you know. These spleens won't vent themselves! ;)

from what I recall, they don't really scrutinise your parking abilities all that great. They just want to see that you are checking for hazards and have control of the vehicle so you know which way to turn the wheel to get to the road position you need. You could in theory just go backwards and forwards 10 times to paralell park as long as you can demonstrate you have control of the vehicle and steering the wheel in the correct direction to get the movement you need.

On my test I was about a foot away from the kerb on first attempt and then I tried to fix it by going forards and left sterring and reversing to get close to the kerb but the examiner stopped me and ask me to continue on driving.

Additionally most people take their tests at quiet areas at quiet times. Some people deal badly under pressure and may perform worse than they did in test due to not dealing well out in a busy area by themselves - having a judgemental partner sitting on a passenger seat can make people more nervous than normal.
