moanymoany and yatesgirl, I couldn't agree more.

And just think a similar rise of 15p (and in some cases, it's been even more than that!) on the price of ten items - and who buys just 10 items per week? - is £1.50 a week rise, £6 per month and £78 per year.

  • Asda do a creamery butter above the smartprice in a bright yellow wrapper only 54p thriftlady you are right maybe we should be rationing ourselves, i may even lose some weight ......perish the thought.!

  • OH popped to Asda today as we needed a few items.

    Value butter 78p
    Creamy butter 78p
    Anchor Spreadable £1.08p
    Kerrigold £1.08

We always buy Kerrigold as its 100% butter and not part butter like most others. 2 weeks ago this was 78p, so has increased by 30p...about 45%

But it's not only butter ronaldo. The knock on costs will affect everyone. Sandwich shops will have to pay more for bread, butter, fillings - that means price of eating lunch out goes up. These are basic ingredients, basic staple foods. Many people live on fixed incomes, butter has gone up by a third and flour by nearly a half - it doesn't take many rises like this to knock the treats budget for six.

And the problem is, you cant bring the price down can you, the price of butter isnt affecting me to be honest

True enough, we can't bring the price down. However, when you say it isn't affecting you all I have to say is - yet!

  • A loaf of bread here went up from the equivalent of 10p to 16p overnight, a 60% rise.
And you think you have it bad with 20 to 30% rises. 028.gif

It doesn't sound much, but I have a Turkish friend and I know that the wages in Turkey are not high for most people. She is a chemistry teacher but she doesn't earn the same salary as a chemistry teacher here.

It would be interesting to know of price rises in other countries, certainly in the USA they are rising at a similar rate.

I can remember butter-making was quite a hot topic on here a while back. Quite a few of us had been given The River Cottage Cookbook for Christmas and there was a recipe for home-made butter, it turned into quite a frenzy with loads of Old Stylers raiding the supermarket fridges for reduced cream! :D
