Has anyone else noticed the price of butter going up ? I ask because the Tesco English butter I usually buy for 58p a pack is now 78p. That's quite a hike in price. It's going to push the cost of my flapjacks up a bit  I wondered if this was across the board

Yes I spotted that too this morning. Even the value butter has gone up to 68p. They do have their organic unsalted butter on offer for 71p so I bought that instead.0

Sainsbury's still seems to be 58p according to my supermarket . com

Food is generally expected to increase quite sharply as British farming has been hit particularly hard by the bad weather. I guess the movement and export ban on livestock didn't help either (FMD).Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

Time for some judicious panic buying then ...The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0

I have read on several sites recently, both USA and British, that the Chinese are buying a lot of produce from both countries. In the USA the price of these staples has risen between 15% and 21% and the commentator said it was partly increased fuel costs but also the demand from China for 'western' produce.
On the Uk sites the causes were given as the weather this summer, the F&M outbreak - and the demand from China, which is growing as quickly as their economy!0 -
In my local Tesco the value butter is 53p & the tesco own brand english butter is 56p I normally buy value but as the other had come down I bought that.
I've been to Tesco this morning but didn't need butter. I shall look next time.

I have noticed the price hikes too, and not just with butter, either.
I noticed their value eggs (I don't buy, btw - my uncle has chooks) had gone up 19p, not a huge amount (although definitely noticable!) in one go, but over the course of a year at one box per week is almost £10! They have also since come down, though why I don't know.
I have noticed others, but can't remember which  of course.

Has flour gone up too ? I've bought loads today, but didn't look at the price and I've thrown my receipt away now.
Gosh, I hope this doesn't last0
