If you employ them and charge them then this would be considered an 'illegal deduction of earnings'. You could be taken to an employment tribunal and would lose without much effort on their part due to the amount of case law out there.
If you believe it was negligence on their part then you can follow statutory diciplinary procedures against your employee.
TBH, that you are asking the question in the first place shows at best a degree of broken trust and that your relationship is not in a good place.0 -
So please tell us how we can contact you with a real dilemma ...0

I know what you mean....“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can never live long enough to make them all yourself.”

It was only renamed yesterday to add "Money Moral Dilemma" to the title.0 -
The hoover that your employee was using broke so as the employer YOU replace it,insurance? If on the otherhand you feel it was careless or a deliberate act then you replace the employee. If the machine i operate at work broke then my employer would have it fixed, they wouldn't ask me to pay for it.From what your saying you would expect me to pay up,are you sure? The cleaner i use at home does a pretty good job most of the time and quite often needs some guidance, especially in the kitchen which i feel is a good thing, once she did threaten me with divorce.Anyway as for you,get a new hoover or cleaner and don't ask her to pay as you could end up being sued.0

How cruel to even think of charging the cleaner. You have enough money to afford a cleaner and he/she is probably on minimum wage. I'm sure the cleaner didn't break it on purpose, so stop being so uncharitable and buy a new one yourself.0

We were asked if our insurance covered this and if not to replace it (all £5.99 of it) we replaced it out of our own pocket as insurance excess too much and it was in our opinion due to degradation of material due to rust and age. We didn't quibble as we need to keep the job really. (Well paid young couples house) but we are peeved!
quite rightly so0 -
Count yourself lucky that this is all you have to worry about0

If it's hard to tell exactly how it happened, how can you blame the cleaner, you nasty person, if I was your cleaner youd be looking for a new one.
I just cant believe your serious!0
