Money Moral Dilemma: Should we ask the cleaner to pay for a new vacuum?

This post is too vague. Did the Hoover just conk out (burnout) as they sometimes do, as do lawnmowers, or was it handled incorrectly (don't know how)? Electrical/mechanical things do give up the ghost sometimes, and if that is the case then you should replace it. Cleaners I know earn £8/10 an hour. Don't know anyone on £15!0

I see the ... um.. bilge that was [STRIKE]created[/STRIKE] recycled for the Moral Dilemma has been renamed MSE News.
It's still bilge!
Why do you bother? I can pretty much guarantee the post above, and the post below this one at any time will be more relevant to the forum!0 -
No. Simples!
My sound machine, for tinnitus, suddenly stopped working. I suspected that my cleaner had dropped it. I didn't even mention it to her, as she was a life-saver.
I just bought a new one.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
That's like a shop asking it's employees to buy a new till when it breaks. I broke a sticker machine but they didn't ask me to repair it. Why should your cleaner buy a vacuum for your house? Yes, they use it but it's their job to use it. It's your job to supply them with the equipment they need!
If you can afford a cleaner you can obviously afford to purchase a new vacuum, your cleaner probably can't.
I can't believe you'd even suggest this.
I makes no sense.0 -
This isn't a moral dilemma!0

They don't. It's probably another made up MSE special.
If so then what a waste of our time putting this post on here and telling us to reply. Thought this was meant to be an honest website. I'm more disgusted if this is fake than if it's real. What a waste of my time, why did I bother0 -
Really???
NO! You should not ask her to contribute towards the cost of a replacement vacuum cleaner! If your arrangement is to supply the tools needed to perform her tasks, then it is YOUR responsibility to ensure they are fit for purpose, to maintain them and replace them if/when they fail to be so.
(MSE are you that desperate for Money Moral Dilemmas?)0 -
I've worked as a cleaner. Both using the tools I've been given [heh - No Wonder they needed a cleaner], & using my own tackle. If it's your hoover & it's broken then either replace it under warranty or head for the vax sale pronto.
For optimum results, consult with the cleaner as to which model they think is sufficiently versatile, has the grunt & is easiest for them to operate.
Ask them to pay & likely find yourself without a cleaner or much of a reputation...0 -
You should have the cleaner flogged and then get her children to work in the kitchens until the debt is paid off!0

I would say it's a universal decision that you buy a new one.
I wouldn't have even thought about asking the user to pay...oh well machine broke let's fix it or get another one.
You don't have to buy another one you can ask the cleaner to use their own.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
