do they send the application pack by email to you
  • Hi all,

I'm considering this in addition to my full time job as a laugh and as a way of making some overpayments on my mortgage each month. I'd be wanting to do maybe 1/2 hours after work during the week and maybe 2 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Is AQA likely to be suitable? Can you basically just "log in" and do your own hours at the drop of a hat or is it a bit more structured than that?

  • Thanks Karen,

Do you know what I'd need to do re my current job and tax etc? Probably wouldn't be too keen on letting them know as it involves some working from home - don't want them thinking I'm taking the mickey!!

you don't need to tell them unless it's in your contract.

You just register as self employed and at the end of the financial year do a tax return which includes the details of your salaried post and also your AQA earning.

Just sent back my test and am absolutely petrified!

It was much harder than I expected, and yet at the same time quite fun and addictive!

I applied and heard back yesterday that I didn't get in
I really thought that I did a great job. Totally followed all the rules and thought my application was pretty good too (I'm a Librarian/Internet search trainer) full time.
Oh well...I'm not sure what they are looking for in the answers, it's a bit annoying that you don't even get to know what you did wrong! Still, I can totally imagine that they are inundated and it's good to know that some people are at least making it.

    Good luck everyone!

I sent my test back on Monday night and haven't heard anything yet.

I have a Yahoo email address and am slightly concerned about the time it takes for me to receive emails from AQA. The original test was dated Friday at 10am, but I didn't receive it in my mailbox until Sunday afternoon.

I'd been checking my emails every half hour since Thursday night and I can only conclude it was held back by the Yahoo spam filter. I had the same problem (along with several thousand others) when my accountancy exam results were sent out by email and Yahoo thought it was being bombarded by Spam bots.

I haven't heard back from AQA about the test yet, but am still checking my email every half an hour just in case ;)

In case you're wondering why I haven't changed my email address, it's because I've had the same one for 12 years and it seems rather a shame to ditch it now!

I have received my test today (test number 1) and I am fine with the factual questions. Where I am struggling is with the questions with no correct/definitive answer. How are you expected to answer these, just using your own opinion? Do the want the answer to be humourous? Think I'm going to struggle if they do as I'm not naturally witty!

Why not install Yahoo messenger (you probabably need it anyway for AQA, or you did when I used to do AQA) - if you do that, you can have it running on your desktop and set to give you an alert whenever mail arrives in your Yahoo inbox. I find it amazingly useful.
