    Hi All,

Does anyone here work for AQA as their full time job?

I'm just curious how sustainable and lucrative it is on this basis.

    Thank you for your time.

    Any news Debrag?

I work full time for AQA. It is sustainable if you are willing to put the hours in and can temper the lean times with the busy ones. It depends what you mean by lucrative - I earn between £6 and £15 an hour depending again on the flow of questions.

Hi eysteve - here is my picky take on your answers, I am not an official at AQA so these points may or may not be correct - what a shame they have no time for feedback though :(

    1) Bobby Moore had 108 caps for England, making him the most chosen player and greatest footballer in the team's history. His goal/game ratio was 0.0185.

I would not have put the comma in after England.

    2) The sum of consecutive odd numbers is known as "The Odd Number Theorem." It is calculated by squaring the final number e.g. 99*99 is equal to 9801.

Wiki has it as The Odd number theorem, which to be honest looks funny to me, you would have thought it would be all or nothing re capitalisation. I would have put the quote marks after Theorem and before the full stop.

    3) The best solution would be to have a permanent income obtained from being fascinating. This would provide the best of both worlds.

Did this answer the question? Perhaps you could have given an example of of how an income could be obtained from being fascinating?

    4) Rather then waiting for your fiance to ask, why don't you commit the ultimate act of kindness and ask him to marry you? Cherish your time together.

    This seems fine.

    5) During WWII, the most consumed meat was horse meat. It is low in fat, and high in protein. The average survival time for a soldier was 3 months.

It's rare that a comma after an and is ever acceptable :p Nice additional fact though.

    6) Gefilte is Jewish for diced fish. A traditional recipe includes tomatoes, peppers and garlic which are boiled in a pan for about 25mins before serving.

Your sentence structure looks odd to me. I think I would have used a comma after fish rather than started a new sentence - if you read the second part as a stand alone sentence then it doesn't really stand alone very well.

    7) The apostrophe has three uses: to form possessives of nouns, to show the omission of letters and to indicate certain plurals of lowercase letters.

I think, if you use a colon, then your listing is supposed to start with a capital letter. Personally I'd have used a semi-colon.

    8) In skating, the salchow jump takes off from the left back inside edge of the skate. The toe loop is a glide on the outside edge of the right skate.

    This seems fine to me.

    9) Men should only be allowed to dye their hair if they are part of a rock band. This applies to both real band members or those deluded by midlife crisis.

    This seems fine to me.
    eysteve wrote: »
    10) A fitting end to the famous train robber: " Here lays Butch, We planted him raw. He was quick on the trigger, But slow on the draw."

There is a space between the first quote mark and Here. Otherwise answer looks good so long as the quote is a direct quote, otherwise the English needs working on :p

    11) Yes. AQA owns all that is sent, Once it's received it's too late to repent, So once it's here you are charged £1, So wait for the answer to be found.

I see what you are trying to do here but someone else might (I really don't know) see it as bad punctuation.

    12) Introduced in 1955, there has been 31,501 MGA 1600cc built including the twin cam model. It's selling price was £940 7s 6d and was build in Abington.

It's is only apostrophed as a shortened form of it is - if it is possessive then it has no apostrophe, weird I know :o . Built required instead of build.

I hope this gives some indications of what a picky person would notice rather than feels like personal criticism, although I reiterate that I have no idea how the actual marking is done and I haven't checked any answers for length or accuracy.

PS apologies in advance for any typos etc that I have done :p

Do you mean before an 'and'? In lists, Oxford University Press's house style insists on it!

I don't agree with that - if you use a colon, then the list should be all lower case and items within the list separated with semi-colons.

I agree - it is clever, but probably a bit too clever.

To your first comment, oops yes I did mean exactly as you said.

Thanks for the info re colons :)

I think that that is correct. However, the ratio sentence

    "His goal/game ratio was 0.0185"

    doesn't make sense.
    YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)

You have up to 15 minutes to answer the questions, but usually they take a lot less. You will be using the internet to answer most your questions and you can also use their own special database to answer questions which have already been asked.
  • Oh, i just thought i'd say thank you to all those who have contributed in this thread. I got my acceptance email over the weekend. Good luck to all those still waiting to hear/taking the test.

Induction is all done though Yahoo Messenger with your Senior Researcher. It takes about 45 minutes and he/she just takes you through the software 'live' and then you have a week to answer 30 questions. They are then marked and that becomes your first review. Important things are length of answer, spelling, grammar and content.

Absolutely nothing to be nervous about, they are doing it all the time with new starters and everything is explained clearly.

I'm still slightly nervous about the induction :o Thanks for the info. I guess it's just the thought of failing to impress or failing at the first review after having hoped and waited for so long.

By the way, do you know how long it usually takes between sending off your contract and having the induction?
