Wedding dress shopping ws an experience. We knew we needed off the peg due to time constraints and there is only one such shop in York.

It didn't help that the other girl trying on at the same time was the same size as DD2, because this limited our choice. We tried 4 on - 2 were DD2's picks, 2 were advised by the assistant. The two that made an impact were DD2's choices.

The first was long with a train and she looked stunning in it. The second one she loved was technically tea length, but as DD2 is short it is ballerina length.

I insisted she try the first one on again - at which point she realised how heavy it was. And although it was to be her decision I had to point out that she is getting married on a farm. so when she put the other one back on she started smiling. The production of a head dress and my veil sealed the deal.

I had said if she wanted to think about it it was fine - I was pushed into one dress by my mum - but in the end she couldn't stop smiling and I knew that the least decisive person in history had made her decision.

It needs altering slightly, and she is now very keen to get it in for alteration so she can see it properly...

I am still breathing a sigh of relief.

Afternoon all lovely news about the dress CY

Got a lovey save the day card myself as dd3 has named the day, then we went round mils with all the kids and gifts for her. Dd3 has her hair dyed a stunning shade of red as she was Ariel the little mermaid for book week, she came with us to see mil and give her the save the day card. Mil was so rude to her, criticising her hair saying how horrible it made her look, then. When given the invite she asked if it was a white wedding, dd3 said yes and mil had a go about her being wasteful and spending to much on a silly day. I wanted to cry! Then mil noted it's in 2017 and said that's the year Shes 90 so they are just stealing her celebration.
Dd3 managed to laugh it off but we were all cringing. I told mil she was being rude and she just said no she was being honest and entitled to her opinion.
At what age do your lose the flilter between your brain and your mouth that governs politeness and manners as mils is definately missing.
(Wish I'd gone to see my mum instead)

Have a lovely Mother's Day all, however you are celebrating.

Ps loving the sliver doc Martin wedding wellies pigpen.

MP .. I'd have said 'well you might be dead by then.. at your age theres no guarantee' ... you're entitled to your opinion too lmao.... I have no brain-mouth filter .. I think it is learned behaviour.

That thought did cross my mind, but I held it in. I'd warned dd3 on the way mil might comment on her hair and she said a few people at work had made rude comments so nothing could be worse than what had already been said. On the way home she said well that proved me wrong, no one else was actually that rude. I've told her to dye it any colour she wants especially for the wedding.
And I've been invited to go dress shopping.

I just decided that seeing as others feel they have any kind of right to pass comment on my life I have free rein to do it to them.. I don't start it but I usually get the last word ;)

I think Id decline a dress shopping trip.. even if it was for me hahaha.. I hate shopping!

Have fun! When are you going?

DD1's bil is getting married in November and his fiance (who he got engaged to after 3 weeks!) found out she is pregnant and due 3 days before their wedding date.. she bought her dress about 10 years ago... I just laughed because I am evil and because fate always gets the upper hand!

Doubt it will be the serious shop for a while yet, but we might go for a mooch round to get some ideas of what she likes soon just because we can. She loves decorating cakes so is making her own but I've been asked to make a fruit one for the bottom tier as she only makes sponge. Will be awhile before I need to do it or much else really we have about 18 months to plan.
