  • The weather was showery and grey when I bought my aforementioned coat and Ray-Bans. Ironically I already had a pair of sunglasses in my pocket in case of sunshine. Ha!
I was also trying to sell stuff at the same boot sale, but custom was slow so I sold things a bit cheaper than I usually would just so I wouldn't have to take them back home. At least I came home with more money and less junk than I left with.

i love car bootsales. i got myself a new sofa last week for free (thanks) its lovely too a nice restful green, it cheers me up every time i sit on it when i remember it did not cost me a penny. in fact a few weeks ago dh and i were discussing renew house contents insurance when we looked baout and realised this is now virtually nothing in our house that did not come from the booty and owes us pence, a much nicer feeling i get i'm sure compared to mates who look about at their stuff and tot up their debts eg to DFS!!! I've never been to a carbooty but now I REALLY want to. What are the best ones in Yorkshire and how frequent are they? Any tips?

I know what you mean... a lot of my house contents has come from car boot sales and it's great to think how little you have spent yet kitted your house out with good stuff.

My friend has just found out she is expecting her first child and whilst she is also of the secondhand generation (was brought up on 2nd hand goods, goes to car boot sales, etc), she has indicated that she is looking at spending a few hundred quid on getting brand new baby stuff. I think she's mad, especially considering the amount of new and next-to-new stuff you can pick up at boot sales - you could eaily get everything you need (if not more) and only spend £100. I know there are things that you'd only have brand new for a baby for hygiene reasons, but there is so much that can be saved from buying decent 2nd hand stuff.

I can't wait till I have a baby and I can gloat about how much lovely stuff my baby has, and how little I have spent... ;)
  • I did my first one as a seller yesterday. £81 profit after the money I spent as well.

Made £20 as I was unloading the car, but didn't get people attacking me as I've read about. I found that having boxes of items with a sign saying '50p each' really attracted people as they seemed to like rummaging around in the boxes, and having a busy stall attracts other people to see what you've got.

I had a good look round and I have to say I'll go to a boot fair now first before buying any clothes in a shop again!

I picked up a Playstation PSOne for 10p, not expecting it to work, and when I got home and checked it worked fine! I'll probably sell it at the next one.

Also picked up a USB Floppy Drive for 20p, a nice brass plant sprayer for 50p and a couple of board games for 20p each.

The one on Thirsk Racecourse in North Yorks is good...9 am start for buyers. :j
  • Yesterday's haul included a Kenwood Chefette mixer for £1, a bag of delicious homegrown damsons (must have been at least 500g) for 25p and 5 assorted old pewter tankards for free.
Unfortunately I also encountered an unpleasant nincompoop who objected to my browsing her stall without buying anything (apparently I've done this to her at previous sales too, though I didn't remember her) and accused me of trying to damage a watch in the hope that she'd sell me it cheaper!
