Bristol Energy Reviews: Give your feedback

  • Although the power supply to my house has been uninterrupted the administrative chaos over my last year’s contract has been outstanding. Online meter reading attempts were rarely successful and I’ve had numerous contacts via email phone and letters none of which have been useful and one email was downright rude. Then to top it off 6 months, yes 6 months, after the end of my contract they debited my account by £407+. I’m struggling onwards to achieve clarity but infuriated and would never recommend this company under any circumstances.

Preparing to switch to Bristol Energy's 12 month fix with dual fuel on or around 10th December 2018 due to my current fixed tariff ending on 31st December 2018. Bristol Energy will cost me £14 more p.a. than if I stay with my current supplier but that will be offset by 25 quid I get from MSE CEC.

What is attracting me is no exit fees mainly because I don't know what is likely to happen with energy prices over the next 12 months so I don't want to be locked in. As I understand it the increase in energy prices was the result of the beast from the east. So what happens if we get a mild winter? But who knows? Maybe there will be a beast from the north.

But overall Bristol Energy appears to be what Ebico used to be so if that's the case I'm likely to stick.
  • Disaster. Bristol absolutely messed up the transfer from Green energy. They transferred only electric and left gas! Took months to sort out. Ombudsman equally useless. Eventually got £60 for massive headache. Don't believe the propaganda. Switching with Uswitch etc is a nightmare, Not worth the hassle. Sorry Martin you are wrong on this one

Update: Due to the current problems surrounding small suppliers I decided to go big six and went with EDF and that gives me peace of mind. That's not to say that I have evidence that Bristol Energy is about to go down because I don't. Maybe I'll consider Bristol Energy in the future when the energy market has perhaps settled down.

In what way was the Ombudsman useless? I've found them generally quite good with the many Iresa and Solarplicity complaints I've referred to them.
  • Dreadful company. Nothing wrong with the supply of power.
BUT ... they don't send the bill and then when you don't pay (because you haven't received a bill) they pass it to a debt collection agency. This has just happened for a second time. Because I choose to pay on receipt of bill (a choice Bristol Energy give their customers) I wait for the bill to be sent via email. I have told them 'send the bill and I will pay'. Now the debt collection agency won't cancel the debt collection until Bristol Energy tell them to. What a shambles.

    Anyone got any opinions yet?

They are a £40 saving over my current tariff.
Just my opinion. Switched in Dec from the debacle that is OFTM. Had no problems at all. Smooth prompt switch with MSE cashback paid in less than the stated 3 months. Price is right and I like the security of being with a local authority. One thing though, thier site seems to indicate that issue 22 is for BS post code residents only. They have other issue levels.
  • I switched both my house and my Dads in January. The switch from Scottish Power to Bristol Energy was the easiest one I have ever done for both of us, no problems. Very polite customer services.
The only thing I find vexing is that it doesn't update your usage in real time. Previously when I have entered my meter readings I can see how much I have used and what my current bill is. With Bristol Energy its a bill every 3 months with no indication of how much you are spending.

BE have just switched to quarterly billing from monthly billing. I found monthly billing too frequent so I welcome the change but others may feel different.
I found their online security a bit oversensitive. Enter your details wrong twice and you're blocked. It's easy to unblock (waiting time on the phone was 3 or 4 minutes) but it was a bit annoying.
    Otherwise everything has gone smoothly.

  • First time posting here. I switched energy suppliers a few months ago, I was previously a bristol energy customer. A few days ago I was contacted by text and email by a debt recovery agency CRS telling me Bristol Energy has passed my details to them about a debt I owe for £34. I had no idea that I owed Bristol energy any money. They had not contacted me to inform me. I am horrified to find out they have passed my personal details on to a third party.
I phoned bristol energy and was told that they had refunded me twice at the end of my contract. I hadn’t noticed their mistake. I made a payment to them over the phone for the balance. I also phoned CRS to update them.
I’m appalled that Bristol energy didn't contact me first to resolve this issue before passing it to a debt recovery agency. I sent an email to complain but I don't have much faith in their customer service. Will this affect my credit history? What would you do if this happened to you?
