I moved to Stone Cross back in May and I absolutely love the area. It's about a 5-10 min drive from Pevensey bay and Normans bay which are both nice areas, not many houses down at Normans Bay though so doubt you'd get anything to rent down there. Bexhill is just lovely, a friend of mine just bought one of the bungalows right on the beach and it's amazing but expensive. Town is good there with some different types of shops. I often take my 2 over to Bexhill to go to the town and walk along the seafront as they love it there.
Westham is very nice, Hailsham is a bit rougher and definately cheaper, Hastings is cheaper but from what I've read the house prices are increasing just as they are in many of the South Coast towns so could be a possibility although I wouldn't go for Hastings myself. Quite a trek over to Eastbourne, especially in rush hour.
Stone Cross is lots of new houses with a great school which is extremely popular. So popular in fact that I'm having to home school my 2 at the moment as waiting for spaces to come up but they're both top of the waiting list.
Don't let people tell you Eastbourne is full of wrinklies either, i had that in my head before I moved down here but I was amazed at how it's just not like that. Loads of great shopping, good out of town retail parks and the nightlife is pretty good as well. I've been out loads with friends since moving here and theres the marina village with some nice restaurants, then there are lots of good bars, restaurants and a few clubs in town. Went to one friday in fact and had a brilliant night out. People are very friendly and down to earth which I love.
Seaford does seem nice from what I've seen of it, Newhaven bit rougher, peacehaven seemed quite nice as well
Anyway if you fancy a chat, do PM me, Andy said you were looking to move down this way

Hi Kim thanks for that I really appreciate it. I'd love a chat. I'm still in Eastbourne for the rest of the day as the owner of the bungalow in Bexhill is messing us around so may have to go back on the hunt again. I've dropped you a PM. by the way, I absolutely LOVE this area its fantastic, I cant think of anywhere else I'd like to live at present.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Just an update for all you really kind people who gave me info I needed
I've found a place to rent, right on cooden beach, its fantastic and I love it. In fact I love it so much I've decided to move straight into it in two weeks time!
I have found a good school and nursery for my kids in bexhill.
Ive checked out the starr inn which was recommended by someone and kids playground is fantastic. And a nice class of punter as well.
I've checked the roads during rush hour and invested in a pair of stick on angel wings to try and fly to work, and I've managed to locate a really good kebab shop in eastbourne centre.
Oh and I went to Yankee Doodles for meal with the boss and his wife. if any of you have not tried it I would strongly recommend it, it does not look much from the outside but the food is great.
So, all in all, a good productive trip. Thanks again everyone and don't forget to wish me luck in my new life ! I'm so excited its like being 5 years old on christmas day :-)

Hi MM,
I just caught up with this thread when I spotted your username & wondered how you'd got on with the move?! Hope you are well & truly settled in now - I am sooo jealous if you are living right by the beach at Cooden. I know someone whose sister has a house with a gate from her back garden onto the beach.... I am doing my uni work placement now & seem to be spending a lot of time going across to the hotel there as it is used for various meetings. Hi Squiggly!
What a suprise I got when I got the email with a reply on this thread :0
The move was horrendous, and really hard work, but that was on October 15th now and seems a long time ago!
We are in the new house and sort of settled, we mostly like it here but sometimes get a little homesick. We are not sure about the area where we live, whilst its v nice on the eye its literally gods waiting room and the kids haven't found any friends yet other than in school.
Saying that is winter and not exactly the weather for spending time outdoors, although I walk the dogs on the beach almost daily and have been to some nice places such as beachy head, birling gap, herstmonceux etc.
I cannot wait for the summer, hopefully it will be a warm one and we are intending on having loads of bbq's and stuff as we now have one of two friends!
Thanks for asking I'm really pleased you remembered, how are you?
The only real problem I've found here is parking my car in eastbourne, its an absolute nightmare - I really need to get something smaller like a focus or something!!!

Lol, yes, parking can be a pain in the backside in town - all the uncertainty over whether they are going to charge or not doesn't help. I'm not always very MSE usually when it comes to parking either - I often head straight for the Arndale multi-storey.. (figure I'd only spend the money on petrol driving round & round looking for a space!) & when it's cold I don't want to walk far... Thugh I've only got a small car too, so it's easy to nip into little spaces if I do spot them
It's a big move to make (distance) & not so easy to just nip up the road to see your old mates, etc, but it is also a lovely part of the world down here. Like you say, being wintery doesn't help as people are all indoors cosy! But there are children in the Cooden area, lol - as I'm currently doing something in the fostering team covering that way, I know they exist!!!
And I was curious how you were getting on - remembered you cos you were helpful!!
If you fancy meeting for a coffee one day if you're feeling homesick, just shout!Glad to hear you are settling & making friends slowly too.

Aw thanks squiggly,
Sounds like you are doing a good job with the fostering work - I'd love to be able to do something like that but at the moment we are struggling for childcare for our three
Its not a bad place cooden, the houses are lovely and you are away from the usual temptations of mcdonalds, pizza hut, kfc etc (the kids of course LOL) however if you get the chance there is a new dominoes pizza opened in bexhill, me and hubby mutually agreed best take away pizza we have ever had.
roll on the summer eh! I can't wait to get down on the beach at low tide with the kids and have a good swim in the english channel! I've just come back from there now, cos of the weather its more seaweed than beach but yesterday we found a dead lobster (yes really!) today there are millions of dead star fish everywhere, and last week we found the jaw bone of a really large fish! such fun ! (aren't I sad!!)
we should definitely meet up sometime, my principle is away at the moment so I'm doing the work of three, but It should have eased off by mid february!
Have a good dayI am a Mortgage Adviser

It's a bit of a trek (other side of Hastings) but Winchelsea & Camber are lovely beaches, with vast expanses of sand at low side.
We go shrimping at Winchelsea - there are often a dozen or so out shrimping at the same time.
Both great beaches for kids to explore. And better out of "high season" when they can be too busy - especially Camber!Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
