Unlikely. The legal position in the UK is that the Republic of Ireland is not considered to be 'foreign'.
Also there were border checkpoints while we have both been in the EEC if some of the older folk remember. I'll safely say that were the UK to leave the EU (and I don't think it will), there will be no change to the border arrangements in NI.
Correct I was driving a lorry between covering holidays in mid 70s before going to england and each day at the border it was a case of going into newry customs post heading south, stopping at border crssing for customs guy to check you had a seal on back door and a triptyke (I think it was called) A triangler sticker on windscreen.Onto dundalk, into customs there get papers stamped and away you went.
Now you did have holdups at customs with traffic but that was almost always because you had to pass through newry, then dundalk and every small town on the road to and from dublin. Now thankfully with computorised everything and the souths motorways most of that would not happen.0 -
Anyone who can't make their own way in life without Europe holding
their hand is a lost cause IMHO
I was around when we joined and it didn't make one bit of difference to my life
The same will happen to me & the majority if we leave.Be good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.0 -

Can you educate me on how the EU can be reformed when the UK's voting rights are diminished with every new country that joins?.There is no will to reform the EU in my opinion in the same way its almost impossible to reform the UK Parliament. In fact when Turkey joins (which it will) they wil have more voting rights than we currently do. There are very few net contributors to the EU budget with the UK being one of them,2nd biggest in fact so we will have less influence in policy making whilst paying an ever increasing amount to stay in the club.
They have spent the best part of 30 years trying to reform the EU and failed so just remember when you tick that "stay" box on the ballot paper you are condemning your children, grand children to an even worse relationship with the EU than we have now. My priority in voting is for the futures of my children and their children and I will vote to leave.
The EU was working fine as a trading block but the Federalists chose to take us down the road to a United States Of Europe and it will happen. It could have worked but the moment they let Greece in and the Eastern European countries the whole EU project is doomed to fail.
Are you aware that Poland alone has been given more money in EU grants than the entire budget to re-build the whole of Europe post WW2?. Its a staggering amount of money and I'm sorry but I would prefer the money we currently give to the EU each year to be spent on the people of the UK .
Currently we donate just under £11 billion (Eleven ,thousand, million pounds a year) and thats net contributions, not gross. This amount is set to increase by around £3.1 billion within the next 5yrs.
BTW the money we save can be used to help the UK industries to grow or continue to trade and that includes agriculture, fisheries, heavy industry, technologies etc.Think of how many houses we can build with that money, hospitals, roads, schools etc.
Could not agree more, at last someone who actually talks sense. Business small and large will all want to stay in Europe, they have less red tape if they are in but what about the populace at large. The effect the free movement of people has had on our resources, our NHS, our housing provision?
Since introducing Greece and the Eastern Block countries the European Ideal has waned. They joined to gain money, and they certainly have.
If we were able to have independence on our own laws and borders that would be a start. But whatever laws we have can be overruled by European Laws. Our borders are not our own so anyone can arrive here. We have always welcomed asylum seekers / refugees, but why should we have economic migrants?0 -
Anyway, the way things are going, there may not be an EU to withdraw from. Schengen has pretty much had it, and I see Greece has recalled their ambassador from Austria this morning. Like something that would have happened in 1914. Not looking good.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0

I take it you are not implying "holding my hand"Be good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.0 -
Well, Westminster has been holding northern Ireland's collective hand since 1928. Some individual hands more than others, of course.
Like 200,000 on DLA. Wow.“What means that trump?” Timon of Athens by William Shakespeare0 -

The problem is the EU has had decades to truely reform the CAP and failed, I don't think anyone can deny that. The EU is similar to the Titanic in that it just takes far too long to turn around and avoid the iceberg.
If we deal with facts then one fact is that for every new country that is allowed to join the UK has less voting rights and less influence. In a way its similar to the Eurovision song contest in that Eastern European countries have far more in common with each other than they do with the West and as such will vote accordingly.
When we have an EU who put political integration above the best interests of its people then its time to leave. As an example I put forward Greece, a country who were allowed to join purely for politcial reasons.
Why should the poor and working class people of Western Europe be made poorer to prop up, modernise the likes of Poland,Romania,Bulgaria etc along with the ego of the political elite across Europe?. This ,along with the fact that the EU openly admit that the Eurozone will integrate further into a Federalist State. Do you heonestly trust the EU not to exert pressure on the Uk to join a Federalist Superstate?.
The deal Cameron got wasn't worth the paper its written on unless its written into the treaties which it won't be for years ,if ever.
Denmark also has a deal with the EU and the European Courts of Justice has ruled against Denmark on no fewer than 80 occasions so a deal is NOT legally binding. The ECJ have to "consider/take into account the wishes of the 28 countries" but it doesn't have to abide by the deal , which it hasn't done with the Danish deal so what makes you think they will with the UK one?.
By the end of 2020 Poland alone would have been given more money than was spent on re-building the entire continent of Europe post WW2.Turkey is probably moving further away from eu membership. It's not going to happen.
There is currently 7 more countries who have started the process of applying to join so where does it end?......... Saudi Arabia,Fiji?. As I pointed out the influence the UK is diminished with every new entrant but the amount we pay in is ever increasing.
In the next 3-5yrs our net contribution will be increasing by £3.1 billion per year. If the UK economy grows we will be paying even more into a failed project.
I owe it to my children and grand children to vote out.0
