Words or phrases that annoy you

  • Oh, so many of the words and phrases already posted annoy me!

Others include (in the very modern sense of the words, not their earlier meanings):
    Sick
    Random
    Whatever

Also, why do so many people in my area say "I borrowed it them" when they have loaned something out? Borrowed and lent are used the opposite way round where I live. Grrr!

I hate being called Hun, Honey, or Babe.

So many people say 'less' instead of 'fewer'.

Another thing that annoys me is that few people seem to manage to say the 'ing' sound at the end of words.

I don't like bad language and I'm finding that it appears to be far more acceptable to swear in public than it was - definitely a step backwards.

We have a beautiful language and some very interesting dialects, but so many people abuse English (and probably other languages too). I agree that it should evolve, but some products of evolution should be discarded.

I notice lately that men announce 'we are pregnant'.

All this talk of dinner or tea is making me hungry!
    Tea nom, nom, nom.
    High tea nom, nom, nom.

Going forward nom, nom, nom should be banned.

Other than that, so many annoying phrases.
Bae is awful, I think we should park it and come back to it later.

Hon, Hun or any variation of it - don't be calling me it, especially if you don't know me from Adam!

Obviously. That word has been creeping in more and more lately in every day normal conversation - it might be obvious to you but it's not obvious to the rest of the world! Rylan on This Morning is a terrible one for this.

Anything "office speak" like "going forward", "take it on board", "I hear what you're saying" "touch base" and such like

In Bristol, it's common for people to be referred to as "love". You go into the shop, pay at the till and you get "cheers love". Do not ever call me love!

Overuse of exclamation marks. One is enough, two at best but when you see !!!!!! It drives me nuts - it's not that exciting :rotfl:

    I could go on...

I don't mind any colloquialisms or mispronunciations; what I cannot cope with is people mumbling so that I can't hear what they're saying properly.

A few times this past week I have had people finish their sentence's with "you get me?". ERM no, go away.
    Booo!!!
  • Date night
    Hun

Those get my back right up
  • Date night

    That one annoys me too!

A date is something you go on when you are getting to know someone. Once you are married/in a longerm relationship, then going out for a meal/cinema etc is not a date, it's a night out with your OH.
