Oh - and the word 'literally' used instead of the term 'metaphorically'. I get that 'literally' implies some sort of hyperbole, but it's overused.

"I'm literally dying of laughter". You're really not.
"I literally can't speak right now." Well, you just managed to say that, so it's clearly not true.

I really shouldn't read this thread - it makes me sound old and grumpy.
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

And if you insist on calling me 'hun', at least have the decency to spell it 'hon'. In other words: accurately.

I worked with someone who used to say (and write!) 'pacifically' when they meant 'specifically'. It used to drive me nuts.

'Basically' is another word that annoys me when it's overused. Years ago, when I was at uni, I had to sit through a ten-minute presentation given by another student who used 'basically' two or three times in every sentence. It grated on me so much that I started counting the number of times she said 'basically' and I got to well over a hundred.

My son persists in calling me mate, which really winds me up so he does it even more.

I'm down south and I say breakfast, lunch and dinner.

But schools have dinner ladies so it's confusing.

I also dislike the phrase I won't be long as I'm usually kept waiting ages!

as in "come for tea" or "lets go out for tea"? - thats your main evening meal :).

You might (if you're that way inclined) use the word tea for your evening meal at home but surely nobody uses it if they mean going out for an evening meal (ie dinner).

I probably would, because to me dinner is always a midday meal, it is never an evening meal.

Edit: If I wasn't having the meal at tea time but later on at night, then I'd probably just say 'going out for a meal'.

People who write draws, when they mean drawers. Somebody on a selling site recently advertised a Chester draws.
I also hate who write OMG, but it is especially awful if it is said not written.
