Using hung instead of hanged - even professional journalists make this error as in today's Daily Mail item regarding the woman who inspired Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles story.

When should hung or hanged be used?

But what about posh tea, with the fancy sandwiches and cream cakes on a stand? otherwise know as afternoon or high tea here.

    That would be afternoon tea.

And the 'tea' in afternoon tea refers to the drink or the sandwiches?

haha the great tea/dinner debate it's just like being at home lol I am a Breakfast, lunch, dinner girl (the correct way lol) OH is Breakfast, Dinner, Tea

My OH is from Birmingham his mum is Black Country I can always tell when he's been talking to her because his accent comes in strong and as someone else said the am's come out grrrr

Also OH insists it's Mom I say it's Mum. I hate Mom and Mommy so he always make sure the cards from the animals (yes I know it's sad) say Mum on the front so he can write Mom on the inside!!

Neither. It's the whole thing 'afternoon tea' which refers to the sandwiches, cakes etc. If it was just 'tea' it's something else completely, same as if it was just 'afternoon'!

I know this is regional but I don't like my dinner being referred to as 'tea'.

Tea is a drink (with jam and bread).

And I don't like my tea being described as dinner nor my dinner being described as lunch! Totally a regional thing!

As for saying 'like' a lot, sorry but I do that. I always think it's a very northern thing.

As a southerner who went to college in the Midlands, I get very confused about which meal people mean when they say "dinner".

My way of getting around it is to have breakfast, lunch and tea.

I hate people saying "I/they/we gave 150% effort" or any other percentage over 100%

There is only up to 100%
